Tell me I did the right thing......GMT IIc slips through my fingers again
Ok so here's the rub;
After purchasing my 1st Rolex a couple of months ago, I soon knew that I also wanted a 2nd Rolex: GMT IIc. However being informed the waiting time was many months if not a couple of years, I handed my contact details to a Hong Kong AD and asked to be put on the list. Just like buses, after expecting months to years I got a 2nd chance at owning a GMT IIc in only a matter of 2 weeks, with the AD actually calling me up on Thursday evening? Having just brought my 2nd Rolex Exp II (Very happy with it) I knew the answer deep down but could not bring myself top say no, so I asked to keep it for 48hrs so I could come in and see. A bit selfish but my brain had begun the silly work of trying to figure if it was possible. Friday, I went to the AD and tried it on, “Beautiful” and certainly the quality that I have read about can only really be realized and appreciated from handling one……….it makes the Sub and EXP II feel a little light and of slightly less quality dare I say; just my very raw opinion of course…..STILL LOVE my Sub and EXP II mind; as you will discover. 2nd, I went into a local shop that sells a lot of used Rolex and asked how much they would give for my 8 week old Sub……….bad news (but maybe good news) ………I would lose around HKG 10K or approx US$1.3K………”no freaken way” , flipping my very 1st Rolex was going to be tough enough but to lose this much or even half this was a not going to happen 3rd and desperate now, I later try and rationalize with my wife, she is still a little upset however about myself getting the 2nd Rolex sop soon after the 1st………..so long story short I listened to my level headed wife and put an end to the whole process …. “NO to a 3rd Rolex and “NO” to the GMT IIc for now, The GMT IIc will be around in a couple of years and should be easier to get hold of by then anyway………right guys? PS. I did call the dealer on Saturday morning to explain and allow him to call the next person on that mysterious waiting list. |

i would not worry.. i too had a similar issue.. i just purchased a gmt ii, pepsi, m-serial number. which i love.. later that week, the AD called and stated they had a couple milgauss pieces come in.
i am not too worried about it.. i would love to own a milgauss AND and gmt ii-c. but i know they will be available in the future when i have the finances.. either new or here on forum in the for sale sections.

You'll get it eventually or find something else. That is the thing about these. You always want another one. You'll wear the IIc for awhile and miss your sub. Yeah, it may be lighter and smaller, but you'll miss it and find yourself buying it again if you would have sold it. Just pace yourself and get 'em. You'll end up owning more Rolex that way if you don't flip. I'm one to talk. I just got my IIc (still in the mail) after getting my sub about 4 months ago. I'm taking myself off the watch market for a bit...........
I hope

Don't worry about "missing out". The dealers spiel that the waiting list on the 116710 is up to 2 years is just another story... proved by the fact that viola, 2 days later he magically has one. By all means get one, but don't be pressured into it. Do it on your own timetable.

Well, you are no worse off now than before you looked at the watch. And your wife isn't pissed off. Win-win.

Dylan,
don't worry, GMT IIc is pretty easy to get in Hong Kong. When your GMT IIc calling you again, just go and get it. |

Don't worry Dylan. The GMT II-c isn't so hard to get anymore. Enjoy the two you've got and when you are ready for number 3, it will be there waiting!

You didn't lose out on anything. At most the IIc is postphoned. It's a new reference and will be around a long time.

You are not worthy of a Sub. Put that baby on your wrist and enjoy the most iconic watch ever.

Anytime you feel like it, the IIc will be there. My AD has two whenever I go in.
