Watch running fast / slow - how do you know??
I have read many posts with people saying their watch is running 5 seconds fast per day or to a minute fast a day or like that. My question is, how do you know that it is running fast or not, and if so, how do you know how fast or slow? When I set the time on my watch I set it against the time on my iphone, which is good enough for me. For instance, my iphone says it is now 4:44pm, my DJ says it is 4:46, and my computer says it is 4:44. So is my DJ running fast? I know it might be a stupid question, but I know you guys are the expert and this is just something I was wondering.

I use time.is website.
Hack the movement to it. Check again 24-48 hours later, or even months later.

There is no way to actually know from what you have posted if your DJ is running fast or not. To properly check it's accuracy, set it to a proper, calibrated source. Check it again several days later, then divide by the days to show an average daily variance.

Actually, the best way to check the accuracy of any mechanical watch is to place it on a digital TimeGrapher or similar equipment...
Within a short period of time it shows the "rate", "amplitude" and "beat error" for a given position. Cost is about $200 for a good unit.

Get a $50 Timex Quartz watch. It'll be accurate to within 0.5 seconds per day. Synchronize your watch to the Timex. Check back 24 hrs later and Robert is your father's brother.
Or, for $45 less, get the Twixt app mentioned above for your smart phone and have some fun with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Watchville is a great app for the enthusiast. It is free and has an atomic clock built in. I use it to keep track of the accuracy of all of my watches
