Another price increase?

I have heard some rumbling about another price increase, apparently they had one in the far east, I wonder if one is coming to the states. Anybody heard anything that can confirm or squash these nasty rumors?

I've heard rumblings as well. If it does happen, especially accross the board, I'm going to be rather ill.

Personally I think RUSA is smart enough to hold off on this for a bit. Many of their AD's are taking a beating and another price increase will not help sales. We have had 2 price increases in the past two years, before that I believe RUSA stood firm for about 2 1/2 years. If prices go up again, RUSA can rest assured that the majority of my purchases will be preowned. A 10% price increase will put the sub around $6500 US and a GMT IIc at $7500, and a SS Daytona at $10,000+, that's just insane IMO....But I guess Rolex sells every watch they make......at some point!

I know this has been discussed a thousand times and the answer is always the same - only Rolex knows.

However, as someone who has been visiting as many ADs as I can find the last few months, almost ALL bring up the dreaded price increase. It really is a dispicable sales tactic, but they all do it. It happened to me at all 4 ADs I have visited here in South Florida while on vacation.

Just another reason why they can't give me a discount on the "hot selling" GMT IIc!

It's coming. I'm surprised they haven't done it already. In an earlier thread, I said August - September. Let me revise that. August/September/Early October.

But it's coming. The dollar is terribly weak against foreign currency. They're losing profit margin.

At the rate prices are going, I'm lucky in that I have all the Rolex models that I could want. I won't stop recommending Rolex to friends as they still represent an important part of any collection in my opinion, but for me, my purchases are focused elsewhere.

As of late, the USD has started rising vs. all other major currencies. Since the US economy is actually weak, this really just represents the global economy slowing down to "catch up" with the US decline. I really can't see an increase coming, at least in the US. IF there is one abroad, it will certainly be shortlived. By that I mean, if you buy one now, you will lose money on it in 3 years or less.

I guess we'll just wait and see. A price increase would be good for those of us that want to sell our current ones, tho.

I never thought I would post a price increase thread but I keep hearing from usually reliable sources that one is coming. I would not be so interested but I am going to get another Explorer II real soon, maybe this week if I get the time. I want to get another white dial with the 3186, I'm really excited about it and don't want to go to my AD and be suprised at a price increase. Anyway, over and over I keep hearing about it coming, I better go get one before I am forced to pay more, or forced to buy pre-loved.

I am done with Rolex purchase for at least a couple of years. Still, I think Rolex will see another precipitous drop in sales if they do another price hike. The AD's that I recently visited have lots of Rolex in stock, more than I remember compared to last year.

Very true ... you can only push the customers so far before they say "SCREW IT" to you .... looks at gas prices in the US ... they are dropping for the last 2weeks straight because people are just driving less and other economical options are hitting the market ....

There is a fine line between quality and being ripped off ....ROLEX is pretty much standing at that threshold ....

I usually take these price increase threads with a grain of salt seeing how there's a new one posted every other day it seems but after the conversation I had with one of my local AD's on Saturday I think there may be some truth to the recent rumors. This particular AD (Reed's) was informed late last week by their Corporate office that there will be a 15% increase in early September (I think they said the 1st) on all Rolex models. I've known this AD for quite some time & they would not chance losing me as a customer by BS'ing me. They said the September price increase was a fact & not speculation. Guess we'll find out in September.

I have found a good solution to the problem of Rolex price increases. I'm not buying any more of them.

If at some point I buy another watch, there are much better values to be had for the same quality, e.g. Omega...

I agree. One of the best opportunities to sell your watch is on the horizon. Even if there isn't an increase. I think the 1-2 year trend, from here, on Rolex market prices is down. This takes into account not just retail sales at AD's, but secondary markets as well, since this obv. has an affect on prices paid.

Exactly.. I have made a couple visits in the last two weeks to ADs, mostly to see what was in stock (and to see how a TT RG DJ looked on my wrist ) and I def. noticed a LARGE inventory. This was at an AD in Michigan, and Illinois (Chicago). I really can't see, even at current prices, those watches flying off shelves.. let alone higher prices.

Also, gold and other precious metals (commodoties in general), have sold off recently from their highs. Therefore, it isn't as costly for them to produce the watches as it was say 2 months ago. Not sure if that even matters, though, because I can't imagine they have hiked production lately.

SIDE NOTE TO HDHNTER : I guess when I try to argue that prices won't increase, I should clarify that i'm thinking in terms of how Rolex can maximize profits. Obviously, they can ignore market conditions and raise all they want. My real point then, is that if they do this, they will find it to be the wrong decision and likely reverse it (or rather, SHOULD reverse it).

Rolex prices are already insane. Getting into Rolex collecting hobby today is impossible for the working joe WIS. Getting one Rolex is already a sacrifice for many. You gotta be pretty wealthy to collect Rolex. I don't think price increases will affect those who have truckloads of disposable income. Think about it, these people easily drop thousands on a watch.

For the rest of us: "no way Jose!"
