Black Bezel GMTII musings and observations

It seems whether they are being shown off in pics, offered for sale or discussed, there are always seem to be fewer of them. "Pepsi" abounds and "cokes" appear more than blacks too it seems. Are/have they just been produced in fewer numbers? Are they just less popular? I speak of this largely as an observation here on TRF, so perhaps my view is skewed. Does seem there are fewer for sale elsewhere too though. Maybe people that buy them just hang on to them more than the others?

Just thinking out loud and wondering what others think about this. Personally the all Black is my fav, with Red/Black being a close second.

I'd tend to agree. I rarely see many black bezel GMTII's for sale on any site. I thought about selling mine for awhile but opted not to due to the fact they do seem harder to find.

It's such a classy looking watch. I'll never sell mine.
Maybe others feel that way as well.

I like the black bezel on the GMT...

Perhaps it hasn't been seen much because it looks so much like the Sub that most folks opted for the Pepsi or Black/red inserts..

Unlike most who like to have a selection of bezels to change to, I prefer to have one of each watch.........

Wasn't the Pepsi bezel the original one and made through more of the production history? If the Pepsi bezel was made through more model years than the black bezel, it stands to reason it would be a bit less common.

I have a Pepsi, but I want to get other bezels (and a jubilee bracelet, hehe). The problem with shopping for bezels is that it's hard to figure out where to get one, and how to make sure it's authentic -- there seem to be a lot of after-marker ones available, and I don't want one of those.

the very first is actually a red and black but pepsi became more popular and later Rolex added the red and black back.
I love both color combinations but no so much the black one since it does not seem to be special against my sub.

My GMT came with a black bezel but I changed mine to the "coke" because I like the color scheme better.

My GMT II came with a black/ burgundy bezel and I traded it for the all black. Being color blind I wanted to keep things simple. But since acquiring a Tudor Chrono with a rotating black bezel I've decided to add some color and obtained a pepsi and plan on adding the coke. I like that the color differentiates from the Sub.
Nothing wrong with the all black bezel though. Again, the best thing about the GMT is you can make it your own and change the appearance if the urge hits.

I couldn't agree more, Bill. I love my all black. It is far and away my favorite watch. Now what could be better than this.

Most people go for the Sub if they want a black bezel sports model.

Although it's not Rockrolex approved because of the jubilee here's one for you black bezel fans.

Beautiful GMT's! I prefer the simplicity of the all black GMT's as well. But overall, I do think they are less popular compared to other color bezels.

having sold my sub that i had for 25 years, i got the black bezel GMT2 as it was like having a newer sapphire sub, fit better, and with the buckle that is less massive, it also was more comfortable for me. but didn;t want to lose the move iconic look of the sub.
now that i also have an x2 in black, if i can ever get a jubilee, i might put it onthe x2, to bring out the steel bezel, making it a tiny bit more dressy, and give some more variety between the two.

Personally, I like the feel/fit/lower profile of the GMTII much better than the Sub myself. Also like the smaller crown too and all these features are better suited to my small wrist.
