Omas - Chateau Rothschild Fountain Pen

I have been on quite an insane fountain pen venture of late, but that is okay with me....

You can read about it here: http://www.nibs.com/OmasRothschildLimitedEdition.htm

I have been wanting this one since it came out and now it is in the collection! It is flippin' expensive, but worth it in my estimation. Especially when you consider it is a fountain pen you can write with and sniff! Those Rothschild's wine barrels are some of the best smelling wine barrels in the world ever! All sterling silver and used oak barrels from the Rothschild Chateau.

Actually I did make a rather embarrassing offer to the seller and he took it.

I am finding that we can spot a pen we want and just contact the seller with an offer. I am about 8 out of 10 this last 90 days or so making a deal with them.

Should have been smarter 10 years ago!

I didn't have such luck with that arco Paragon and the Ludovico. Haven't heard back on the Arco in a few days but that was at a jeweler. That offer was fair for list but Arco's are going crazy on eBay now. The Ludovico got declined. The seller is in Germany and didn't respond to my offer via message early in the week. I ended up putting in the offer formally anyway and they didn't bite or even send a counter off through message. It was fair. About what I offered for my recent maroon Paragon. I might try again this weekend. Weird guy. I still have a line on a Visconti though and got a counter offer. That pen needs a little work though. I might do it anyway.

I would think the Arcos are a difficult acquisition in any market. They are just gorgeous and rare.

I wish you luck!

And I failed to mention this in my response above, but years ago I purchased a Omas Arco Dama in Bronze. Dama being a bit smaller than the standard Arco Milord.

It was at a time when I was rather new to the Omas line and didn't research things very well, and was surprised to find out last year that only a few over 50 of them were made. I guess it makes sense as many of Omas pens were completely hand crafted.

You can still find a few of the Arco Grey sets (131 sets made) and some of the Reds and even an occasional Green, but the Bronze versions appear to be the most widely desired and toughest to acquire.

Good luck in your quest to add one or two of them to your collection.

I got into a bidding war for a green with gold trim arco earlier this month. Got burned at the last minute but the bid ran up to $800+ in 2sec so I was out on that one. Just watched a 2002 brown arco milord go for $600+ the other day. I think I'm steering clear of these for now. Once my Paragon Ludovico Einaudi shows up I'm taking a break for a few months save for a Lamy LX and maybe a Visconti Watermark. Planning to pick up a bluesy sub by Christmas so it's all ramen noodles and tap water until then Maybe an impulse Montegrappa if I can get it for nothing

I can certainly understand that position. But in the long run it will all be worth the sacrifice!

My plan is to troll eBay throughout the year waiting for the Omas market to settle. I'm hoping to strike on an arco sometime once things have settled down. I do need one in my collection. No doubt about it
