Most Versatile Rolex

I know that all modern Rolex watches are versatile, but it seems to me that the 39mm Explorer is perhaps the most versatile. It's slightly smaller than the typical 40mm sports Rolex, but slightly larger than the typical dressier 36mm Rolexes. It has the painted coronet and the sports hands like the sports models, but the smooth polished bezel and baton hour markers like the dressier models.

I'm just curious if most people feel this way about the Explorer or is there another that takes the title as most versatile Rolex.

Thanks!

Mike

I liked the 36mm Explorer better. But you'll get n+1 opinions for n responses methinks...

Couldn't agree with you more. My 39mm E1 could easily be an only watch. My GMTIIc gets little to no action these days. It just fits well and is perfectly happy under cuffs during a board meeting, as well as on a perlon NATO during vacations to the beach, and all things in between.

The new Explorer I is one of the most versatile Rolex.
Apart from this, it is definitely BLNR, IMO.

Never been a fan of the E1. It's always looked a bit boring in my opinion. But the BLNR can work anywhere.

Haven't worn a modern Exp 1 but I wore a 1016 and it was very versatile but a touch small. Really should try one of the new models out.
The 1/14060 is one on my list for most versatile.

Agree it is boring compared to twisty besels models sub,gmt etc

But I'm beginning to think more is less!

It's a good middle of the road watch that can be worn anywhere.

Any of them can do anything short of those on leather straps.

It may very well be the most versatile. I consider it to be the base and foundation of the entire Rolex sport line-up.

Also up for consideration: the GMTIIC LN.

I own an Explorer and it is versatile. But, I think a WG DJ (116234) is probably the best all around, goes with anything watch.

For me it will always be my 16710 with lug holes.....I have all 3 bezel inserts and the lug holes make swapping the bracelet to NATO, Rubber or Leather quite easy and efficient.

I love the Exp. 1, especially the 36mm, but without the date, makes it less versatile as I would like/need it to be.

Rather than add to this mess, I really like your black lab. He looks just like ours. Love when they turn up their ears like that.

I think that the 114060 is the watch. A classic with modern design and the glide lock bracelet make it the best in my opinion.

I think you've confused versatility with variety. The 16710 certainly offers maximum variety, but that wasn't the premise of the thread.
