Old threads always locked?
I didn't see anything in the rules not allowing posting in/reviving old threads, yet I've noticed they always seem to be locked immediately. Sometimes these are good/informative threads. Why is this not allowed?

Very few people seem to pay attention to the date on threads/posts, so you get this situation where people are answering or reactng to five, seven, even ten year old comments, thinking they are chatting in real time. There are other reasons, but this is the main reason why old threads get closed (by me anyway) unless they are especially interesting.
Also, threads are often resurected by new members searching for a specific topic, and they add their question to it. This is missed 99% of the time, as very few people read through the whole thread, they just read the first few posts and go to the end to answer. |
