What size screwdriver for Oyster bracelet links?
My screwdriver kit has 3/32" and 5/64" flatheads, and one is too small, the other too big. What size am I looking for? thanks

Argh, I'm having a BEAR of a time removing one of the screws in this bracelet. I took it to RSC in BH recently to adjust the bracelet, but I want to change it a little now. RSC is too far away for a simple bracelet change (they also removed a fixed link for me), and the local AD doesn't have a jeweler on staff every day.
Anyway, I think the watchmaker at RSC put too much loctite in the threads, because it's pretty much impossible to remove. I shaved down the 5/64" screwdriver a little so it fits well, but it just won't remove the screw. I can adjust the other screws on the bracelet, but the 2 that were tampered by RSC are stuck. What else can I do except take it to RSC or AD? |

Bring the watch to the hardware store and see if they have a screwdriver that provides more torque than your present one.

1.6mm i believe for the oyster bracelet, the issue you may have is with the thickness of the blade most don't fill the slot, reducing the torque you can apply

Thanks for the info, but I think it has to be more than 1.6 mm. My 5/64" screwdriver head is bigger than 1.6 mm, and even that's a bit too small.

Hi,
The screwdiriver in this Ebay link is exactly what you want for undoing the screw on the Sub/GMT style of bracelet. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rolex-Sea-Dwel...d=p3286.c0.m14 I have one and it is perfect as it gives you a good grip with the knurled edges. Your biggest hassle is holding the bracelet firmly. I use a proper bracelet block whereas some people like to lay the bracelet out on the edge of a table and push horizontally. Good luck and take your time. Additionally, you may be able to soften the locktite if you warm up the bracelet with something like a hair dryer. PeterT |
