Icon4 I finally got a call for a Daytona 116520 from my AD

Hi everyone, I just got a call from my AD saying they have a Daytona 116520 but they said the cost to buy it is MSRP is $9,200. I'm debating if I should buy it considering I've been reading on this forum that Daytonas were retailing at $6500-$7000. Any advice?

At $9200 I'd grab it NOW !!!
You're not going to find a brand new Daytona for $6500 - $7000.
Where did you get an idea like that ?!?!?

Daytona Dilemma

I just bought one from the Classified section of TRF and it was for more than the list $9200. If you are hesitating because you suspect a brand new Daytona can be had for less, it may be if your Father sold his to you. For me, the gold ring would have been my dinky little AD store calling me about a SS Daytona available in their store. The purchaser of the SS Daytona with white dial in the TRF Classifieds listed as PENDING FUNDS... is me. If you are serious about dropping near 10 grand on a brand new Daytona from an AD, this is an opportunity that will not remain open for very long and you should, like Mr Miyagi said, its like being in the middle of the road.... Daytona Yes , or Daytona No , but Daytona maybe = SQUISH!

Prices went up in March 2008. MSRP is $9,200 in the US.

Is it white or black? I'll take it if you don't want it.

Last year, retail was around $7,000 but even then, the gray market was around $12,000. Right now, retail is around $9,000 and the gray market still around $12,000 maybe because of the economy. There are some rumors about a price increase that will take place soon. A Daytona at $9,200 still a good buy. Buy only if you really like the watch. Don´t buy it to keep it on a safe or sell. AD´s don´t like customers who resell. If you do, you might not be a preferred customer anymore.

Sorry guys, I never knew the price hike came in 2008, I guess my research was showing prices around $7000 MSRP for the older Daytonas. I definitely won't be selling this Daytona so sorry to those asking :)

P.S. Anyone got a serial guide so I know what model year this Daytona is when they show me the serial numbers?

Last year, I paid at MSRP for $7900. This year the price went up to $9200. Next year may be over $10K. If you have chance to get at MSRP then just buy it. In case you don't like it. You can alway sell it at lease the price of you paid for or more. Or, you can just sent it to me. Just make sure that is a white face one. I already have the black face.

Why do people always refer to the dial as a face ?
A WIS should know that.........

They must be getting less scarce.

Last week I got a call on a white face from an AD i ve dealt with in the states and monday a caribbean dealer told me he had a black face daytona.

I ended up taking the white face for $9200.

I told the Caribbean Dealer no thanks.

Its a stunning watch and is growing on me.

My GMT is getting jealous I think!! lol

Because it's a common term. Nothing wrong with calling it a black or white face Daytona.

Why are the white dials more desired than black? do they make more of the black ones?

Hi NewRolexMan, how come your bracelet is one tone or is it the picture? I thought all 07+ Daytonas came with a two tone steel bracelet (a regular steel with polished centers)

Cos that's the term used in "The Windmills of Your Mind" song, I think they wanted to use something that rhymed with "space"

It must be the picture. You are correct. It should be polished centers.

In Asian market, black face daytona are harder to get, and higher price(only happened with those dealers who dont sell them at retail)

We do not know how many Rolex produce each face. But I dont thinks Rolex make one dial more than another. They should be equally made. It is not the same case as the black/white Milgauss and GV.

It looks like it has polished center links, maybe there's plastic wrap on the bracelet that wasn't removed.

Just get it if you have the funds and want it. Seems like it is in the ballpark.

If you have family out of state where they don't have a store you may be able to have it shipped to them to save on taxes. Other than that go for it.

Post some pics if you get it.

Get it if you like it. Otherwise there are plenty of people who would like one at MSRP.

Give it a manual wind and a gentle shake. Or maybe you're looking at the wrong hand?

Your second hand is at 6 o'clock dial. That should move. If not. you have problem. The long skinny hand with arrow head pointer is not you second hand. That is for stop watch function. BTW, congradulation on your Daytona.

An AD told me never shake a stopped Rolex to get it going. Instead, wind 15-20 times to wake it up

The Daytona's second hand is the small dial located at 6 O'Clock, and congrats on getting the watch at MSRP which is rare
