How to lay down a watch!!!

Hello people, quick question, i got told by a Rolex AD to lay the watch down on its crown/button as this is the strongest point and minimises scratches to the watch, however my boss has been a fine diamond jeweller for 35 years and said that it should be laid down the opposite side to the crown/button with the crown/button facing up and says that the crown is the weakest point and it can wear the logo/emblem on the crown.

What are you guys thoughts, opinions, facts on how i should lay my watch down?

Thanks

Daniel Watson

I have a watch case that holds 8 watches and fits neatly into a shelf in my safe.

Those watches are strapped/wrapped around cushions. Dial is facing up as if you're looking at the beauty of every watch when I pull it out.

If I was to take my watch off and not put it in the safe I would have it crown/winder up. It sits smoother that way. But I don't take off my watch - it goes from wrist to safe, safe to wrist.

Moral of the story: get a little watch case with cushion for when you take it off.

RSC video on you tube recommends resting it crown down, to minimise contact points on the watch itself.
I very much doubt it will ever wear out the crown logo, and unless you slam it down hard, what possible damage can it do?

I generally only take my watch off at night and usually just lay it dial up with the clasp unbuckled.

Crown down. It saves scratching the case, and the crown and crown tube are replacement items at service time.

Usually just stick it back on the cushion in the winder, but sometimes I just lay it dial up on the clasp on a book on my dresser.

I would doubt if your watch will care no matter what position its put down to rest, whether crown up or downside up.SS is one of the hardest materials around in watch cases. So resting on any flat surface while off wrist I most seriously doubt if any wear to anything would occur in any position.

How to lay down a watch!!!

I don't like the clasp and back of case touching so I always use something in between...

Here's a great chart referencing how to lay down a watch in the interest of keeping accurate time...

I always lay them crown up on a microfiber cloth when they're not on my wrist or in their boxes.

It goes either on the winder or back into the box crown up.

haha very good.

I lay my watch down depending on the required self regulation. My pepsi GMT for example keeps the best time laid down crown up. My LVC goes flat with the dial up.

After i wash it and it's clean, i wrap it on its cushion and let it in the box.
in between washes, i lay it flat, with microfibres between the resting surface and the watch, and between the case and bracelet.
Good point on resting it on the crown when no accessories available, however laying it flat gently would not add any scratches.
