From the photos you have posted it looks very nice. Can you get photos of the serial and reference numbers between the lugs? Can you get photos of the caseback, both inside and outside? Can you get photos of the movement? Do you trust the seller? For the amount of money this watch probably costs, I think those additional photos should be a necessity. The hands, dial, bezel and insert look to be in very good condition. From what I can see of the case it also looks good as well. Can't really see too much of the crown, and would still want to see the underside of the lugs too. I think the bracelet is a Swiss rivet, but I can't quite make out the rivet heads well enough to tell for sure. A photo of the clasp would help, both inside and outside.

Ok serial is good and the 7206 rivet with 58 end links looks nice too. Try to get some pics inside the case if you can, but the exterior looks very nice. The insert does seem very clean but I don't think it's new. But if it bothers you they are easy to change by yourself and lots for sale. I wouldn't let that stop you from buying if the price is ok.

Would you say USD20,000 is about right for this watch? |

I've seen these go for between $15-$23k depending on condition, so assuming the movement looks good then yes the price is probably accurate.

It looks very good and the price sounds about right. Do the hands and dial glow for a short period after exposure to light? I believe they should. The insert looks fine, not sure if it's a replacement but I wouldn't worry either way. The date disc maybe a replacement but also this is an easy change.

Depends? Do you think that dial and hand set are original?

Hi, Springer,
>As for the date disc, Springer, here on the forum, is the man to ask about >that. May I ask your advice on the date disc? Do you think this is original to the date? Any thing else that may seem odd? Thank in advance.! |

The reason I mentioned the date disc is that it appears very white. Original discs of this period were a light metallic grey. If white then it'll be a service replacement. No big deal.

Date disc is for me a consumable. I would double check if the hands glow as the dial. If not they are likely changed which is very common for these. Insert is for sure later but that is an easy fix if you want to. Overall a nice looking GMT.
What makes or breaks it at 20 is the gloss. You would want a mirrorlike finish which is tough to determine on pics. Ask for video in daylight or go and check it out in person. |

The shop said that the hands were fixed, but this is one of the best mirror dial's he has seen. Am I correct in saying a spider gloss dial is not as good as an mirrorlike dail? |

Here you have two very good gilt dials. The 5508 has perfect gloss while the GMT has some spotting. See the difference? Looking at both from the front the GMT still looks perfect but the gloss isn't 100%. |

Thanks for posting the pictures. Smooth mirror gloss is more valuable than spotty small crack gloss. Understood and thanks. Very educational! I always thought that small crack spider gloss was more valuable because it shows natural age ware and tear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

OP, IMHO spider dials are a defect that only get worse in time. Dealers hyped up spider dials in order to sell a defect as rare and gullible buyers took the bait.

Provided that dial is legit....and I've no reason to believe it isn't ...that dial is in fantastic shape. Like new? No. But, looking at all the '66 GMTs for sale out there, it's gorgeous.

Spiderwebbing is damage but the important thing is still the gloss. I'd rather have a spiderwebbed glossy dial than a none-spiderwebbed gilt dial which lost it's gloss.
Here's a nice glossy 6542 I used to own. I prefer that one everyday to a gilt dial that lost its gloss. |

The one you are looking at looks very minor. If you want to see very bad spider dials then look at later model 16800 dials
