DaytonaC or Patek Aquanaut?
I'm debating between a white dial DaytonaC or a Patek Aquanaut 5167a for my next and possibly final watch (at least for a long while). The Daytona would most likely have to picked up through a trusted seller whereas the Patek would be purchased through my local AD.
Would love to be able to pick up a stainless Daytona from my AD but that doesn't seem likely and the markup in the secondary market definitely puts me off a bit. However I've always admired the Daytona and to me, the new white dial with the ceramic bezel looks amazing. The Aquanaut has always been on my radar and would be my first Patek. Love that it is sporty and versatile on the rubber strap. I'm a bit concerned about the infamous Patek service times and possible delicateness of Patek though, as I do wear my watches regularly. For reference, my small collection as follows: 114060 SubC AP ROO Triple Calendar IWC Pilot Chrono IWC Portofino 8 Day Thoughts? Thanks in advance! |

The Daytona is an awesome watch. It would be nice to have a Patek in every collection but I am not a big aquanaut fan. So between the two definitely the Daytona but throw in the new Patek pilot watch and I would jump.

I had an Aquanaut years ago. Paid a bunch of money for it, kept terrible time, felt flimsy on the wrist, caught a bunch of crap from my girlfriend for spending so much money on a watch that she felt looked cheap and flipped it. Never looked back and never missed it. Daytona all the way.

For me it would be the DaytonnaC. I never understood the craziness behind the Aquanaut.
But if you do, it is a fine watch. |

I would go for the 5167a. Based on your collection, seems to me that an under-the-radar PP would be very cool.
The Aquanaut is a special piece. Most overlook it (myself included) until you spend some time with it, after which, it can become the only watch. It's definitely a watch-guy's watch. |

Patek's are indeed lovely time pieces! As the new owner of a white Daytona C though I can say it will be a very long time until I make another watch purchase....this thing is unreal!

With those 2 choices, I'd go with the Daytona.

My vote is for the Daytona C! Love that white dial with the black ceramic bezel. Good luck.

I think a PP would make your collection stellar, but I don't care for the Aquanaut. Between the two choices, I'd go Daytona.
Have you tried the Daytona on though? Quite a few people have reported while the Daytona C looks amazing in pictures it doesn't always translate as well to the wrist since it wears small like Daytona's do. Personally, I would have to try it on before buying, which is hard to do with this model due to scarcity. |

In this case, Daytona.
5711 on the other hand wins easily at least for me

Agree. Get a nautilus instead. If you're spending that money it's strange to have a watch like that on rubber. Mine was not durable at all either. Went through two of them doing routine things and both broke. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd get the Aquanaut, I certainly would not pay the huge premium from a non-AD. Get on a few AD lists and if a Daytona emerges you can sell something else and buy that too.

I'd go with the Daytona C and wait for second hand prices to drop closer to MSRP. They seem to be moving down already, while 116520 prices are increasing.

DaytonaC.. every time I take it off , I can't wait to put it back on. Tried on the aquanaut and while nice, didn't feel or look as nice as the Daytona. Now if it was beteeen steel nautilus and Daytona, would probably go nautilus

Aquanaut is my least favorite PP. Daytona is my favorite Rolex. Slam dunk.
A blue 5711 would change the equation though. |

I would pick up the Patek. Now if you can get both at retail then slight edge to the Daytona. Good luck.

I think the Aquanaut goes better in your collection. You will have a great varied collection there..

Daytona, but not at a premium.
They are available through AD...just have to find a dealer who doesn't play games. |

I think the Aquanaut goes better with your collection. You already have a chrono. Suprised at the lack of love for the Aquanaut. It's a unique watch that goes well in a collection, imo.
I've had 2 Daytona's and sold both. Had a WG one and the new Ceramic white dial. I never used the chronograph function and I don't understand why Rolex doesn't add a date between the 4 and 5 hour markers like other brands. I do like the look of the Daytona - it photographs well. And the new model is a stunner. Wears well on a smaller wrist. My Aquanaut keeps better time than any watch I've owned. I've worn it consistently for a year and a half. Just took it on vacation to Disney. Water, rides, etc. Picked up a scratch (brushed bezel will do that) but got home and tested and time was dead on. It's under-the-radar but watch enthusiasts notice it immediately. Very happy with it. Maybe I got a really good one. In short, I've owned both and still have the Aquanaut. Probably can't go wrong with either. Both should retain good value. I wouldn't pay a premium for the Daytona, though. Try and work a deal on the Aquanaut and if neither one is a clear winner go for the best deal! |
