New member - need some advice - Batman or Sub no date

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. So I have narrowed my first rolex purchase down to two:

Sub no date
or
GMT Batman

For the longest time I thought it was going to be the Sub, but as I'm getting just a few months away from pulling the trigger I am REALLY falling in love with the Batman. I love the timeless looks of the sub and it's history. It's not flashy, and it's all class. I was very specific about wanting it to be a no-date.

The GMT, for me is just such a good looking watch, I don't know what it is about it, but it is also calling out to me. I don't even like dates on my watches but this thing looks amazing to me. I do ok for a living but having 2 is out of the question for me. I could prob only swing one a year.

Should I play it safe and go with a classic sub? Is the batman somewhat a gimmick? Will it stand the test of time? I'm so torn! My only other decent watch is an Omega Speedmaster MOTM. I'm going to be 40, this is a birthday present to myself, no kids or wife to complain about anything.

What to do? What to do?

Hi..
Flip a coin and if your happy with the outcome that's the one. If you travel the GMT is very nice. But the sub is a nice choice too. Sounds like you already know tho..

Depends on what you need. I like to be in the water and a sub is better for that. Plus I don't need to know the date when I am in the water.

BLNR
the bezel looks all black indoors and enough depth rating to swim with and a bonus GMT complication.

I would personally go BLNR.

Gimmick? I think not. In fact, blue for day, black for night seems most appropriate to me. However, even if it being a "gimmick" was a common viewpoint I still wouldn't care. I like mine just fine. Which is what matters most at the end of the day. Go with your gut. You'll have a solid outcome either way.

I think he failed to mention the 2k to 2.5k price difference. Guess it doesn't matter either way.

I'm on the water a lot during the summer, but I don't think I'd bring either one on the lake with me. I do travel both for work, and vacation about 3-5 times a year, but I don't find it a chore to change zones wherever I am at. I'm looking for a watch I can wear in the office and wear while going out that has a slight pop to it but won't come across as super flashy, super "look at me". I also don't want to feel like I am missing since I can only have one.

also, price doesn't matter, spending 7.5 or 9.5-10 are both a ridiculous luxury for a watch in my world. I'll be selling one of my pinball machines to finance this venture. Between those two price is irrelevant.

Definitely get the sub. It's timeless and it will never go out of style. The same thing cannot be said for the blnr. Just wait until the new gmt Coke comes out, and the batman will lose its hype very quickly. Just my humble opinion.

New 114060 can be had for 6k or so. Blnr is closer to msrp. 2k to me is a big difference in that price range. That said if you buy right you'll have no problem should you ever sell.

I went Sub for myself. I like the brushed bracelet and Glidelock a lot, don't need a GMT function and enjoy the symmetry of the no-date dial.

But the BLNR is a gorgeous watch as well.

Impossible to go wrong either way, just depends on what you prefer and value more. GMT function, blue/black bezel, and date vs Glidelock, brushed bracelet, and dateless dial.

Not sure why you would think blnr wouldn't stand the test of time......it's been a hot seller with no loss from msrp on the grey market practically since introduction for years...and is based on the iconic timeless design of the gmt....if I were to pick one between the two, blnr.

Sounds that you want the BLNR. Will stand the test of time? Absolutely! It's a modern classic.

Had a sub for 15 years and very much enjoyed it! Sold it last year and this year decided I missed having a nice SS watch on my wrist and for me it came down to the Sub ceramic with date or the BLNR. Went BLNR and absolutely love it. They both have very common characteristics but the blue and bezel on the BLNR is so nice. (I did brush the PCLs after a month, they are not my style). You CANNOT go wrong with either one.
