Please TRF No "Bling" when referring to the Yacht Master

Hi all

Please, please, stop referring to the Platinum/SS Yacht Master as bling.

Bling, to me, is tacky, gawdy cheap & nasty, and the Yacht Master is anything but.

I know it blurs the line between tool & dressy, but It's not a gawdy Jacob or Muller with a cheap movement & simpy dressed with diamonds to appeal to people who know nothing about watches & timepieces.

It has a movement with impeccable pedigree, has an amazing sense of occasion and can be used for shooting, sailing, cycling or even in the office(!).

It ain't no mongrel half breed.

It is supremely comfortable and can be worn when meeting British Prime Minister's, in the gym or going for a stroll in the park, to relax.

Please excuse my first TRF rant, but to categorize something as "bling" (to me) means it is cheap & tacky.

The very best of health to you all & your families & loved ones

Viva La TRF! The superior watch forum

Thank you, Tony.

I wear a Platty with a lot of pride and joy.....and wouldn't really call it bling.

However, it's certainly all class!!

Bling is not in my vocabulary, so don't worry about me using it. I feel the same about the, ahem, word as you. For me, when a watch is over run with diamonds, it becomes jewellery rather than just a watch.

The case design of the YM is different than that of the SUB and is very comfortable. The lugs have a nice curve to them. The case makes the SEL wear just right.

Thanks Time Traveller

"Bling" is just cheap & nasty slang that shouldn't be used to cheapen classy objects

Thank you Bubba

I know the Yacht Master isn't as big a seller as the Sub or Daytona, but it's a great timepiece & I hate when it get's cheapened with slang

I don't think of the Platinum/SS Yachtmaster as bling, merely shiny. I like the way it looks in a display case and in JJ's pics, but it doesn't look good on me. But throw diamonds around the bezel of a man's watch (or especially on the case and band) and you've crossed over the bling threshold into tacky, cheap and gaudy territory for me. Unfortunately, Rolex has no problem with leaping gleefully over that line.

But what both amuses and astounds me is that a man would wear something like that on his wrist.

Someone with no sense of style or class methinks!

Tony.. I slipped on a Yatchmaster at AD's last week. What a beauty I am definitely not a bling person and would feel comfortable wearing it anywhere. One man's bling is another man's tool

I call that BLING! comared to the other sport watches Rolex makes. Unfortunately that bling seems to be creeping into all the new models even the poor DateJust. Rolex should change the name of the watch when its re styled to look nothing like the original form and Rappers start lining up to buy them!

For example take a good look at the out going sea dweller and compare it to the new one. The new one is all blinged up. Rolex is wrecking its reputation falling for this trendy blingy flashy look.

The Yacht Master can definitely hold it's own against 44mm watches.
