If you are unsure about a Big Pilot, this will help get you over the hump

This is a review of an IWC Big Pilot 5009

At first I thought the BP was too big and wouldn’t work well as a daily wearer. But something kept me interested in it. The watch stuck with me and I had to get one.

First, the overall quality is top notch. The watch lacks nothing. This watch commands a high price and the level of detail comes with it. I really like the strap, the tapering is spot on and leather is fantastic.

Second, the size can suit any wrist. I would put aside any feeling about wrist size. It will fit a smaller wrist just fine. Your enjoyment wearing it will surpass the thought of wrist size.

Third, this can be worn as a daily wearer just fine. It can go both dressy and sporty. It is a versatile piece.

I would say I was on the fence at first, and very happy I made the choice to get the BP.

Check out the lume at night, the pic was taken at night. I did not expect a decent lume, I am impressed.

Congratulations it's a beauty.

How large is your wrist?

I've tried it on a few times at our local boutique but it wears a bit too thick for my liking, (and that's saying something since I wear a Dblue).

I agree, it's a well finished piece

Enjoy it

Love the BP. Its the only watch I've ever sold that i miss. Ill probably add one again in the future.

Just curious, why don't you have it on the calfskin strap it comes with? That looks like the previous generation's strap. For me, i preferred the Santoni calfskin strap.

Yes the case thickness is definitely there. Its probably on the thicker end of most watches. My wrist is ~7" depending on the weather. So the strap, I know the new ones have the calf skin straps which are great but I really like the alligator. The alligator adds some pizaz for lack of a better word lol.

Putin has a Big Pilot! lol-- BTW he has alot of watches. He has been know to take off a watch he is wearing and give them to helpers of his and strangers.

The funny thing is, I've always wanted a BP until I saw this thread. I'm just not sure if I could deal with the thickness of the watch.

It is beautiful though!

It honestly wears smaller than you'd figure given the dimensions. I have a 7.25" wrist and it's very comfortable.

Putin is 5'7" in heels. There's no way that's a big pilot

I've always loved it, but I can't possibly be the only one that thinks that looks way too big for the OP.

I know close up pictures make watches seem bigger, but that looks gigantic.

That being said, as long as you are happy, I guess that's all that really matters

BP has always been my favorite IWC. I just always second guess the size and if I could pull it off on my 7" wrist.
