Choices...choices...choices....maybe you can help!

Now that I cleared out my "Rolex savings account" when I purchased my Sub...its time to kick off a new saving adventure.

Every now and then I may thow in a few hundred...or maybe even just $10 into this bank account which I use to buy a watch. I may sound strange, but I really enjoy the feeling when I see the numbers rise...and approach the goal set to buy the watch I'm saving for.

Now here's the question...what now! I am delighted with my Submariner but thanks to TRF....the addiction has taken hold to a point where I am dreaming about Rolex's.

I am tossing between a SS GMTIIc or a white face SS Daytona. As much as I'd like to go into a store and try them on and look at them side by side...I can't do this as my local AD's hardly ever have stock of either!

What would you do? Which should I save for and why?

At the moment I am leaning towards a Daytona, as the GMTIIc is quite similar to my Submariner. But then it is different in its own way.
How about Daytona's....is the huge demand finally slowing? Or will they remain scarce and face even more huge price rises

Any advice would be much appreciated...this dilemma has forced me to read countless threads on both watches all day...and I just can't work out what to do! :)

I have a GMTIIc, love it, and have no regrets. If you already have the sub and want to change things up, get the Daytona. The GMT is new and will be around for a long, long time.

BUT... if you like one better, go with your gut! Congrats on the 'savings account' idea and reaching your goal - what a great idea!

Since you have a Sub the answer is clear. If it would be your first and only Rolex, I would get the GMT2c.... But if the GMT2 is very similar to the Sub, bezel, dial color, case (somewhat)...

Daytona White dial is the way my son. :)

I would save for a Daytona, prices are at an all time low as the supply is high in both the Gry Mkt as well in the AD's back room. That said, who knows what the market will be like when you have saved enough.

Just talked to the people at Grima, one of the local AD's.

They can't put me on their list for the Daytona becasue its for return customers only, but they are selling the Daytona for $11,925 AUD....which for the Americans on TRF is $7951 USD! How's that for a nice price :P

I also asked them about the GMTIIc, that is $8790AUD which is around $5861USD. They don't have any in stock but should get one mid december. However there are 3 others who would be before me if I was put on that list.

I'm going to give my regular AD a call now, and see if they will put me on their Daytona list.

I would have bought a Daytona if it was available. Bought a GMT IIc and no regrets.

I'm on the waiting list for both GMTIIc and Daytona with White dial at The Hour Glass in Melbourne. I was talking to Antonios (I think he is swiss....very hard to understand, especially on the phone) but I think he said it could be around 1 year or more for the Daytona, and the GMTIIc a few months.

Now I still need to make up my mind on which to buy first! (yes that's right, I'm now contemplating both since the Daytona will take so long to arrive)

Both are great watches, I used to own a GMT Master II, looked at the new model a few weeks back, the bezel is incredible! my opinion the GMT! However as the others say The daytona will go well with the SUB

I'm starting to lean towards the GMT now lol.
I do have a Breitling Chronomat which kinda covers the Chronometer kinda watch for my collection (although its nowhere near a Daytona!). I think I'd rather get the GMT now (well in a couple of months) and then start saving again for a Daytona in a year or so.

My only fear of owning a GMT is that I'll wear it all the time and my Sub won't be used much at all (and I really love it...being my first Rolex).

Man, that's tough. I'm such a GMT fan, it's such a versatile watch and I think complements the Sub so well.

Having said that, this may be the best time I've seen to add a Daytona to one's collection.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I think I will go for the GMTIIc. I don't own any GMT watches, and I already have a Breitling which covers the chonometer watch part of my collection. I'll get the GMTIIc, and then save and get a Daytona from my local AD when I am eventually at the top of the list (in a year or more).

Funny you should post this, I am going through the same thoughts this weekend.
I went in looking for the SS GMT II. Very nice indeed, until I asked those few words "you don't have a Daytona in the back , do you?"
And they did.
I think I will pull the trigger tomorrow. Unfortunately I won't be able to pick it up right away.
I think the demand for the Daytona will pick up again once the "economy" turns around. There are not any "more" of them now, just not as many buyers at this time.
Not that I am buying to resell.

I have had the GMTIIC and it is a great watch, but I traded it in for a black face SS Daytona and couldn't be happier. Daytona stands out in the crowd and besides Ari Gold owns one.

Sorry, just not a Daytona fan.

Can think of a many Rolexes I would prefer before a Daytona (just not my cup of tea).

Easy GMTIIc.................

Wow, is that price for a brand new or used? The USD is very weak if thats for a new one.

I'd go for the GMT. The Daytona has too many hands/dials for my tastes: I like to keep it simple. But if you like that kind of thing (lots of spinning hands), go for it.
