I am really close to purchasing the SS GMT-IIc. I am just a bit nervous about laying down that type of cash. The most I have have every spent on a watch before this was $600 on a Gucci (don't laugh - I didn't know any better back then) and that was 10 yrs ago when I was 26. Please tell me about your holy cow what have I just done stories. Thanks!

No regrets here. I waited over a year to get my GMTIIc, and it is the best money ever spent on a watch. Buyers remorse only occurs when you buy something stupid like a wedding ring!

My Holy shit was working for a big name company that wasn't paying me shit then leaving and starting a new career in 2003 which paid me much more $. Then getting a letter in the mail for a class action lawsuit filed by a former manager of said company and signing on that dotted line to gladly opt in. Here's the holy shit, 4 months later I got a check in mail to go buy my SS Gmt IIc with cash and plenty left in my pocket. Best payback I and a few thousand others got from that crap-ass company, all be it 4 and a half years after I left.

I bought a 1K Movado back in college. I didn't know watches well and thought that watch looked cool. It still sits in my safe doing nothing for me.

But you can't go wrong with a SS GMT Rolex. At 36yo, you've waited too long already! I'm 34yo, and I just got my first Rolex, and wish I had bought one 10 or 15 years ago. Prices have really gone up over the years. The GMT is an everyday, every occasion watch. You definately will get plenty of enjoyment for what you pay for it.

The only time I've had serious doubts about my watch purchase is when I've bought brands other than Rolex.

Consider it as a transfer of funds. In this current climate if you can buy a SS GMT IIc for RRP or less then go for it. IMO prices from Rolex are not about to go down.

Absolutely no regrets. If you are getting a good price (i.e. shopping from some of the great TRF members in here), you can't go wrong. If you hate the watch (which you won't --- you'll love it), you can always turn back around and sell it. Try doing that with a Gucci. That's the beauty behind the Rolex brand --- awesome watch and if you don't like it, sell it ... like cash in the bank (making interest).

Amen to that! I wanted one from high school on and just kept putting it off because of the cost. Finally bought a pre-owned one when I was about in my early forties. Wore it for about 20 years and loved every day of it. Every time I looked at it I got a good feeling. Recently I've bought 3 new ones and I only regret not getting a new one sooner. Unless you're starving the cost will fade quickly and all you'll have left is the joy. Good luck!

I am doing the right things - maxing out my 401k, saving a bit, paying down extra on my mortgage - I did not mention a $250 monthly car payment but it is minimal

Go for it. I look at it this way. Having a Rolex on my wrist is like having money in the bank. You can always sell it and sometimes make money with a Rolex. I dont know a whole lot of other watches that you can do that with.

I had never spent more than $220 for a watch.

For decades, I thought accuracy was king.

I still do, but there are other factors to consider.

I thought anyone who spent thousands on a watch was deluded.

As I began to accumulate watches and to study watches and to look at watches and to talk to people about watches, I began to want at least one "prestige" watch.

I settled on a Rolex Explorer and dropped about $5200 on one about a month ago.

I have not had one seconds worth of regret.

If love watches and you buy a watch you want and if you have the means to pay for it, what's to regret?

Holy Sh*t for me was, after spending a week deciding, jumping and leaving the company I worked at for 30 years. I left for a fine gig and paid in taxes almost what I grossed working for my former establishment. Then my $360 Seiko Kinetic (now that was a Holy Sh*t expense for a mere wrist watch on my old salary) quit and I was shown the error of my ways by my little brother, who suggested I look at a Rolex. 6 Rolexes in 6 months paid for in cash- is now my Holy Sh*t!!
Don't over extend yourself. Pay cash for it and you'll be ok. This is a really crappy time to run up a big credit card balance at 24% APR.

five years down the road I can't even keep up with what it's worth I just recently received the back from the Rolex service center looks brand-new. that watch will never be flip it will be passed on to my son.
