Absoutely not. Great attempt at trying to redeem the Yachtmaster II though......
Considering if price were no object, you'd still find a great majority of Rolex enthusiasts turning their noses up at the Clownmaster II. I think the original designer of this model is now shovelling coal in Alaska.

Not everyone, I wouldn't for one.
It is just not a watch that smiles at me or makes me smile, well maybe giggle a bit

i think the spirit of what you're saying is correct. that is, if the watch came in a ss model more people would buy it. i think that's simply because it would have a lot of bling and status appeal.

i still wouldn't own it, no matter what it's made out of!

Regardless of the raw materials and resources that go into the Clownmaster........it's still a damn Clownmaster.

Okay, I've never put it down, but: it's not for me.

I would like to add though, that the YMII is much better in the flesh than in pics. The DS is the same. The writing on the rehaut is barely noticable in real life.

I just don't think modern Rolex models are photogenic...

I would certainly buy one, as would my sailing friends. This countdown complication is a breakthrough for Rolex, and this watch is truly a tool watch. Ugly? Yes, but its function is highly useful. I would be very disappointed if it not eventually offered in steel.

I might buy it just for the complication. The bezel interaction with the count-down timer is amazing.

The Pt version looks ok in pictures (to me) but I reserve to say anything good or bad about the watch until I see it in person. Then again that would only be my opinion.

My biggest complaint I don't like about the watch...
It says it's name on the bezel. Doesn't stand out as much on the PT version.

I agree with rolexgiants since some fellow-members own it and they have reason to like the watch!

Yannis and RG bring up good points. I've seen a definite negative trend on TRF lately. You can have your opinion, just be respectful.

I have tried on both the YG & WG models, and like many Rolex models, you have have to see this watch in person to appreciate it...if you havn't seen it and tried it on, keep your fingers off the keyboard. To the OP, it would depend on the price of the SS version, but I would surely consider it.

x2 Great point and I feel the same way. It is a functional watch for its limited group of actual intended users - about the same number of which dive to 4,000 feet and beyond. SS is a major appeal to Rolex owners because they are affordable.

Interesting post.

I still wouldn't buy it.

Two things about the watch that put me off - the no-date and that blue horseshoe on the dial!!

Scott,
If you can't have a personal opinion on the look of something without touching it there is no point in having eyes and I don't think the ladies would like it either .
As nobody has seen or touched a SS YachtMaster II this whole thread is based on perception.

If you want my two cents, a SS YMII would look quite nice. Although I think the YG version is pretty hideous, the WG model with the Platty bezel looks nice. An SS version could sit in a niche just above the YMI, obviously to take into account the complexity of the movement. It would certainly allow it to be more popular than the all Gold versions. Yes, it's big, and yes, it looks different from other Rolexes, but surely Rolex should be applauded for taking the risk and having a bold design?

I think this forum can get a little hysterical when it comes to this watch. Show it some love, appreciate the work that's gone into that great movement.

Mic, can you post a lume shot please?

Let's face it, the YMII is very expensive, but anyone that can afford a yacht to race or to own won't worry about the price of this watch.

Great comment about it being a tool watch, but can anyone explain how to read the functions please?

Marke,
Valid point. However, there are so many things out there that do not photograph well (and it just not watches), take for example the RolexRolexRolex on the rehaut, in pictures it stands out like a sore thumb, but in the flesh its barely noticeable. I would guess that many of the people posting negative comments on the YM II have not seen it in person or tried it on. There is no doubt that the YM II has been beaten up pretty badly since it was released and I'll admit that initially I made my fair share of comments, this was before I tried the watch on. This past January I had the luxury of trying both the YG & WG version on and I will say that did a complete 180 on my opinion of the watch. I really liked the look & feel of the watch, but with the price tag it carried was not justifiable.
