How about a Bund strap?
I alternate this one with the nato (and on rare occations the SS braclet).

I guess maybe people in Kansas just like to wear the cowhide. Here's my friend's GMT II on a Bund. I think it looks pretty cool.

I vote yes. That is a classic look. And quite a few famous people have been seen with that combo Guys and JJ, would you not wear a Rolex if a strap was the only option
