What to look for in purchasing "ROLEX RAILWAY STEPPED CASE WATCH."

Hopefully someone can guide me or help me in information regarding purchasing a "Rolex Railway Stepped Gold Filled Case Watch". What to look for in buying an original and not a fake Rolex watch? Any literature or photographs would be greatly appreciated. What should the marking on the case and movements say exactly? Thanks in advance.

The only ones I am familiar with are the old rectangular Prince models that came with both straight sides and single stepped sides, or double stepped sides..These watches that were made in the 1930's model number 1527...

It was not popular in the day and is very rare and collectible.

Another odd railway was the "jumping hour" Prince where the minute hand was displayed above the seconds hand (two sub dials), but the hour was similar to the current date function in a window above the two subs.... it "jumped" to each hour as the minute hand completed 60 minutes..

Square with the outer sides "stepped" in progressively smaller edging...very art deco, similar to the sky scrapers of the day...

The serial number is stamped on the back and the inside of the case will have the Rolex hallmarks....

The movement should clearly state Rolex and have the jewel count..
