Is this normal???
I recently purchased a SS GMT-IIc and if I put the watch up to my ear I can year very fast ticking of the second hand. Is this normal. I thought this was to be a true sweep! Thanks!

That's normal, 8 ticks per second. For a true sweep, you have to get a Seiko Spring Drive.

If you DO NOT hear your Rolex ticking, then it's time to worry

I can hear mine tick. It sounds like music to my ears.
Ticking inside a sealed box would not be music to my ears though! |

I can't hear my Explorer tick when I place it next to my ear, but that's because I have a high frequency hearing loss, but the strange thing is that if I lie with my arm resting under my pillow, I can hear the ticking of my watch, but it sounds like a gong.
The first time I heard this I thought I was going nuts, until I figured out the connection between the pillow, my arm and the gong.

As explained above by other replies, it's perfectly normal...
Now, if you really want true sweeping hand movement, get a Spring Drive... |

In one of those great lines by Ian Fleming ...
... tension builds in the plot of the novel, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, as James Bond hears the ticking of his Rolex wristwatch!
