YG Daytona 116518ln vs 116508

Hi guys I’m I’m close to pulling the trigger on a yellow gold Daytona and am considering between these two models:

116518LN with ceramic bezel and oyster flex bracelet.
116508 with 18K YG gold bezel and bracelet.

Both have the same champagne dial and the price difference is 3K.

May I have your opinion pls. Thank you very much.

Ken

For 3K, the bracelet is a no brainer for me.

I went through this EXACT dilemma for a few weeks. I went with the OF option. I just didn’t feel completely comfortable with an all gold watch. I felt the OF toned it down enough. The dial on this baby is amazing!!! It’s a great dressy and sporty option without all the “flash” of an all gold piece. Pics to follow.... good luck!!!

I would go with the bracelet version but Paul Newman dial. (Inverted colours to the one in your pic)

YG Daytona 116518ln vs 116508

I think the bracelet is nicer, but it’s not interchangeable. I bought the rubber for myself and bracelet for my fiancée. No doubt her bracelet version is a better package overall, though the oysterflex is very cool and a few grand cheaper.

I just don’t really like to see rubber on a watch, it’s not a luxury material and so is the only thing I don’t like. It almost stopped me buying the watch even though it’s so good otherwise. The ceramic bezel is cool, but gold bezel also is more premium.

So you have a choice of either the most luxury/beautiful model or a compromise in luxury to have a more sporty and hard wearing model. To me if we only had one it would obviously be the gold bracelet, no question.

One thing I’d note is that the case on the oysterflex is slightly bigger than the case on the bracelet, there is a chance the bracelet model will look small on larger wrists (it’s the same size case as the steel model), whilst the oysterflex model has that little more size.

Also notice that the dial on the Daytona is champagne but it’s a silvery champagne, compare it to my DD40 dial, and you see the Daytona dial is a lighter more white/silver champagne than the darker more gold champagne on the DD. That’s definitely not a bad thing, they are both fantastic and the Daytona dial is especially beautiful in the sun.

OF for me, bracelet probably better bang for the buck, but the OF just goes so well with the Daytona esp with that ceramic bezel

116518LN with ceramic bezel and oysterflex.

Rolex is in the process of equipping all Daytona models with ceramic bezels. They are withdrawing from metal bezels for the Daytona line. So, 116508 with the gold bezel will look outdated in a few years; and it's a scratch magnet.

I struggle to believe they would put the ceramic bezel on the full gold watch, that would take it down a notch and make it less luxury. No one wants to swap their gold for ceramic lol.

Not to mention the 116508 has only been out a couple of years anyway, I don’t think they are changing that watch for a long time, and definitely not putting a ceramic bezel on it, that would be crazy.

And trust me, compared to AP Royal Oak and Patek Nautilus, and especially AP Offshore, the Daytona bezel is practically bullet proof / unscratchable!

Aren't all full-gold Subs and GMTs equipped with ceramic bezels now? I've heard that Daytona will follow. But it will take some years.

Yes subs and gmts are, but they were aluminium before, not gold, so the change was just from aluminium to ceramic and even then people are unhappy about the colours with ceramic vs aluminium!

I’m sure we will never see the day-date or skydweller with a ceramic bezel instead of a gold one for example.

Let’s see what Rolex does over the coming years, but my expectation (and hope) is that the gold bezel is kept.

Oysterflex ceramic for me. It’s. Not just the bracelet that’s different.

The case is bigger/thicker on the ceramic and the watch wears larger as a result. The bracelet Daytona in YG has an asymmetric case the same as SS Daytona’s. The OF YG doesn’t

What an amazing collection. It's a good thing you can pick whatever you like (bracelet or strap) if you want something else.

Your fiancées Daytona looks stunning.

The bracelet. Buy a Rubber B after you have it and have two looks. Ask your AD the price of the oyster bracelet and you have your answer.

I've heard it from two different ADs from my area (from good, knowledgeable staffs of those ADs). Rolex wants to implement a certain homogeneity in their sport lines (Daytona, Sub, GMT, Yachtmaster, and so on) by equipping them with ceramic bezels. And, even without these inputs from the AD staffs, you can clearly notice the trend.

Ceramic is a more luxurious material than gold in wristwatches. It is much more costly to develop and produce ceramic parts. That's why a full-ceramic AP RO is much more expensive than a full-gold AP RO.

The bracelet makes the watch for my tastes. I love the feeling of gold wrapping around my wrist...so nice.

The OF is stunning, though. If you do go this route, make sure you've got the right sized straps on it that will fit you. If not, they are difficult (and expensive) to source.

If you dont buy the bracelet and for some reason you want a full gold bracelet in the future well lets just say your gonna get ripped bigtime.

Better to buy the bracelet and get a oysterflex or aftermarket rubber and clasp as additional. It will save you a tonne of money. Going the other way is gonna kill your wallet.

Both look lovely, the ceramic bezel really makes the dial 'pop's but I would feel cheated with the oyster flex as the price doesn't reflect the lack of gold in my opinion. I prefer the all gold bracelet but would try and source a ceramic bezel then I would have the perfect combination!

Not a comparison. The bracelet is heads and shoulders above the oyster flex imho

Sorry sir but you are wrong on that.

I even bought the ceramic ROO below and can confirm it was definitely cheaper than the gold one! I think it was actually less than the gold Daytona funnily enough.

Gold is king! Long live gold! (Now just don’t mention platinum and the ‘platona’ lol...)
