Sea dweller pressure testing?
Can these only be pressure tested to the stated depth at Rolex? I have a 116600 and 16600 and the recent thread about the HEV failing on the 116600 has me thinking I should pay more attention to checking them ever year as I do wear them in the water.

Not even man or superman could survive the depth that the SD is rated for in water. So a high street pressure check to a 100m-200m will be fine for all water activities including scuba if passes..

Thanks! I know the depth is way over rated for my recreational diving but I wasn’t sure.

If you get your SD to a random watch shop and have it pressure tested, be prepared for the pressure test to fail on their equipment. Some of these machines will measure the crystal response bending to pressure and that failed when I brought my Sub into a shop to have it tested.
The case construction of these watches is so good that the equipment can't detect any change in the crystal. Since the SD is on a whole other level of water resistance than my Sub, don't be spooked if they tell you that their machine says it failed. If you really want somebody to test your SD, they need specialized equipment like the one shown in this thread: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=589829 Incidentally, that was the thread where I inquired about the water test failure of my Submariner :) |
