Time to buy a solid gold watch ?

I have always wanted one. Don't n e e d one of course, its just infatuation

I was looking a the (i) white gold sub with a blue dial, (ii) the Daytona on a rubber strap with ceramic bezel (all the golds look lovely, the white gold is subtle, the rose is classic and the yellow is probably the nicest but not subtle), (iii) yacht master 40mm with ceramic dial in rose gold with rubber strap or a (iv) solid gold Daytona

I expect to get a hefty discount on gold, but funnily enough have been offered the least discount on the rubber strap ones and the most on the complete gold ones.

The Daytona in solid gold I have been offered the highest %age discounts. Just worried the non-ceramic dial will get scratched up fast

The yacht-master is lovely but a bit more of a minority pursuit and might effect resale ease. Although it is the lightest to wear.

The Daytona with ceramic bezel and rubber strap is lovely. Quite pricey given there is no gold strap. I can get a new full gold Daytona discounted to almost the price of the rubber strap one ...

The sub is just lovely. Very subtle. The least "beautiful" in the technical sense but probably the most wearable.

What do you guys think ? I would like each one and can't decide ...

I'd go all gold Daytona first, can't justify the cost diff. on OF vs gold bracelet. Second choice would be RG YM on OF, the least expensive of the bunch.

Be sure to get a bracelet on it. IMHO it really makes a gold watch and it wears very hefty. Nice to have if you only have one :-)

I prefer the yellow gold myself, but the rose gold Daytona with the chocolate dial is mesmerizing. Maybe give it a look too

I agree, go bracelet as it adds weight so you remember what you paid for. I’d go with the Sub.

Easy answer... NONE
*Wait for the Gold Daytonas on bracelet to come with a CE Bezel

What are the discounts? This would make a difference for me when picking if i was torn between 2 pieces

I'm personally partial to the WG/Oysterflex Daytona and the WG Sub. Color-wise they're just two of my favorites, so that's what I'll recommend.

It would be between the Smurf and the 509 for me. Not a fan of the oyster flex, but YMMV.

As far as which, kind of depends on what else is in the collection.

Good luck!

116519LN for me by a long shot.

The 116509 is nice, but it’s being discounted heavily for a reason - it’s not as cool as the ceramic Oysterflex models.

For a first PM I would advocate a full bracelet so the Smurf or YG sunburst blue, altho of your choices I would now take the WG OF Daytona.

My vote.... it’s not subtle but more so than an all gold model. That’s one of the main reasons I chose it. I was split bw this and the WG but the was just a hair sportier than I wanted. Good luck!

When I decide to get a gold watch it will most likely be in the form of a dress watch, Rolex Cellini, JLC Master Ultra Thin or maybe even a Patek

What dial would you go with for the full gold Daytona? And which gold?

If you must go bracelet, I say WG sub. Otherwise, OF Daytona.

Here’s my Daytona with my friend’s sub the other day

Is this a one and only watch? Do you lean towards YG or WG?

I agree that this is worth the wait. You will probably take a hit on discount for this on release, just like the OF references now. At least for a while but it surely solves one of major visual and practical vulnerabilities of the present lineup.

But if you have to decide now, there are many Gold daytona references that are simply irresistible right now.

If going YG or WG I would go with the metal bracelet. I wore a YG Daytona for almost a decade and really liked the watch. Transitioned over to a DD II and enjoyed the larger size. Went back to the Daytona a couple of time but it is just a little too small for my likes. I prefer the YG Submariner with the blue sunburst dial or one of the numerous DD's on the market. Go try them all on.
