1950 case
Hi guys..
Just curious about Panerai’s 1950 case .. Both 372 and 127 case are 1950. However, the side profile are totally different. The 127 looks very thick visually. Since they are not the same case design why Panerai refers them as 1950? Thank you v much in advance! HAGWE. jen |

The 127 was Panerai’s first 47mm luminor for the public. It’s a closer representation of the 6152-1 on which it’s based.
Here’s where things get a bit complicated. Today’s “1950” cases take two forms. One has the edge on the side case, eg the 372, while others have the smooth side, eg the subs, like the 127. A bit of history. The 6152 case had the side edge while the 6152-1 had the smooth side. Most 6152s had no crown guards while, I believe, virtually all 6152-1s were equipped with the guard. All that being said the 372 is a blend of the 6152 and 6152-1 (side edge and guard) while the 127 is a homage to the 6152-1 (smooth side and guard). As an aside the “1940” case is based on the 6152 (edge and no guard). Confusing, I know. IMO Panerai should make all “1950” cases the same or split the line into two. Either way, the cases are dead sexy and rooted in history. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I love the 372 case! LOVE. It’s one of the most beautiful case IMHO. Jen |

1950 case
Here's the profile comparison between 368 (based on 127's case shape) and 372 Actually 372's shape do fit better on the wrist however 368 have titanium case that's lighter To make things even more complicated,on 44mm model there are 2 kinds of 1950 case as well...the one on 233,270,275 vs the one used on 312 and its derivatives...they fit the wrist differently too |

One pattern I've noticed is the slimmer sides like the 127 and 233 come on the domed crystal models, and the 312, 320 have higher sides with a flatter crystal. They are often similar thickness over all, but the dome makes a slimmer appearance. Of course the new slim models have given the non domed models a domed style side profile.
I'm not sure I'm making my point clearly... |
