Submariner , GMT or both. ?
HI. Im a new customer to the Rolex brand and I have caught the bug.
Having recently purchased a new Rolex for my partner and having a new Submariner in my hand ( it wasn't for sale) my AD accepted my note of interest and put me on their waiting list. Unfortunately the 2 year waiting list is a long time but will be worth it come delivery day :) My dilemma is simple. I understand the waiting times for a GMT is around 6-9 months which isn't that long for such a superb watch. I was drawn to the Black 116710LN and the Batman 116710BLNR watches. I would be privileged to wear any of them. I was planning to visit my AD at the weekend and place an order, note of interest for one. I like the clean look of the full black bezel but also like the slightly rarer blue/black bezel of the BLNR. Is there an advantage of having the 116710BLNR as apposed to the 116710LN ? |

I’ll start with a Sub first with the brushed steel then move to GMT2 after I get the feel, weight and aesthetics of a Rolex sports model.

I went SubC and the new Tudor GMT. Nice combination but really miss the cyclops feature on the GMT.

Have had 2 subs (one vintage/one modern, both traded/sold off). Currently have a DSSD and a BLNR. I very much enjoy the duo and feel I have my bases covered....you'll do fine with a Sub and GMT in the collection.

I have the BLNR and a SubC. Both are great and compliment each other. To answer your question, both GMT are fundamentally the same. The BLNR had the bi-color bezel and its claim to fame is that it is Rolex’s first watch with a bi-color ceramic bezel that. I believe (someone correct me if I’m wrong) it is also the first bi-color ceramic bezel made out of 1 piece. Again other than that and a blue hand, its the same watch.

welcome! i recently got the Sub black no date, its more of an industrial watch where you can wear and not have to worry about jamming it on table as much, due to the brushed finish. But i personally find the GMT more of a dressier everyday watch! it always depends on how will you use the watch. Remember these Rolex watches used to be tools to begin with. They were the iphone apps of their days haha. What i wanna say is, consider about your lifestyle and which watch fits into it more.

Thanks for the replies,
Ill be more than happy wearing any of the GMT's. The GMT will be gifted to my son when the Sub arrives. Is the 6-9 month waiting time for the GMT accurate ?, I was quoted that from the AD in Preston last week but haven't spoke to my local AD yet |

I think the wait time varies greatly based on location and relationship with the AD. I’ve seen on the forums wait times between weeks and almost a year. Hoping you get yours sooner than later and please post pics when it arrives.

But i do have a recommendation, i was told to never put down a downpayment if its more than 3 months. Because they could continue dragging the wait time but your downpayment is not refundable. So i just get on the waitlist and the day they call me saying my watch is ready, then i'll pay in full. My AD told me that i could put down a 30% downpayment for the Sub and i just told them that when the watch is ready i'll come in that same day.

I have a GMT and I'm constantly tempted by a sub. But, they're basically the same watch, so if I did it I'd go out of my way to make the end result quite different. For example, I currently have a BLNR on a croc strap. But I've been eyeballing a five-digit two-tone sub with a champagne Serti dial. That would look totally different from the BLNR. I'd never just get a black six-digit sub, though -- I have 90% of that on my wrist already.

Out of the 2 GMTs, BLNR wins hands down to me. The blue is so beautiful and it almost looks black at times. That said, I would still go with a Sub over GMT. Sub has a cleaner look out of the two, and it is THE Rolex to own IMHO.

I would suggest a gmt master with a sub no date, that way, it references the first generation submariners, while still having a watch with a date like the gmt.

Went into the AD at the weekend. I opted for a 116710LN as I prefer look of the one colour black bezel. Quoted up to 2 years :(

I prefer GMTs to Subs, but I'd rather have a Sub than a half blue GMT.

both if you can swing it. I went with the Tudor BB for my diver instead. Just recently got my Rolex GMT and this works for me. Not looking to buy a Sub any time soon.

Go ahead and put your name on the list, then check with other ADs from time to time. You may just happen upon one (or the other) randomly.
