Would you buy a Two-Tone Sub as a Dressy Watch
Hi,
I have been looking for something dressier than my SS sub date and in doubt between choosing the TT Sub Black Dial or TT GMT Black Dial. Also, some friends advised me on the massive depreciation of the TT models. Would you buy a TT as a dressy watch? If yes, which one would you pick between those two models. Please let me know what do you think. Thanks, |

Might I add a SMURF as a potential candidate?

I would say 'yes' and do the sub with blue dial...or black which is your preference. Because the GMT is thicker and won't go under a dress sleeve as well.
She who must be obeyed says 'no' and tells me that TT on any watch looks a) too cheap to go solid and b) is an old man watch My dream 'dress sub' is the white gold with blue dial. She tells me that's great, as soon as i win the lottery. I would strongly consider buying used, because it's probably in great condition and let someone else take the depreciation. |

TT Black Dial is a great watch, my dad is on his second and I’ve been an admirer of his for years.

For a dress watch I would go with something from the datejust line, a patek or JLC.
From those, best would probably be the tt black sub

And I love TT subs. Especially the black dial. |

Nope. Had one, sold it. Always felt like a compromise. Mixed identity.

If I loved the watch, absolutely. That said, I think stainless steel Rolexes are perfectly fine as dress watches. At least in the circles I've always run in.

The "two-tone" Submariner 16613 LN was my first Rolex and was my only watch for a few years. Handled every activity and function for me with no problem at all.
Buy what you really like. If you do that, you don't have to worry about resale value or what others think. You'll enjoy your watch and get your money's worth out of it.

116613LB bought brand new October 2016 for £8500. Since then, the price increased 10% in November 2016 (and again it will increase a further 5% this October). A 116613 just now on watchfinder is OVER retail for a used/pre owned watch, you can have a 2017 watch for £10,650 (rrp is £9900). So.. to your friends. |

If this is about a dress watch
If you already have a diver in SS, how about a used 18038 or so gold Day Date (President)? I owned that watch, and wear a TT 116613 LB Submariner as my do it all (including dressy affairs) watch. But if I had a SS diver, and wanted a watch dedicated to more dressy events, I would buy a Jaeger LeCoultre gold Master Calendar, or for roughly the same money used, a 18038 Day Date in gold.
Having said that, since no one ever looks at anyone's watch, buy what you like, and wear it everywhere. |

Not sure you’re correct when you say the gmt is thicker. If anything, the sub is ever so slightly thicker if I’m not mistaken? |

I'd go with this as well. You already have a Sub - diversify and go with the GMT.

IMO, the TT version of the sub or GMT is not really "dressier." If you want a TT dressier watch, I would look at the DJ lineup.

Of course not. It's not a dressy watch.

Two-Tone Sub is not dressy or a dress watch. A TT dj maybe if you are in to that. Best to go for something clean on leather

I don’t know how dressy you are talking about but I wore my blusey with everything from my wetsuit to my tux. James Bond wore his ss sub with his tux and nobody comment on it!

No, not my bag as a dress watch. But I think some guys have the personality to pull it off. :)

Love my blusey and it looks super sharp w/ a suit. Think of it, I mostly rock it with formal than casual clothing.
Personally my favorite Rolex! |

Since you already have a SS Sub Date, you would feel a little bored of your collection if you add another GMT or Sub into it. Sub and GMT are not specifically for office environments (they're luxury sports models). Maybe look into DJ (similar price range too) or even a SS SkyD would be more fitting.

Why would you get a TT black dial sub or gmt Black Dial ? Get the blue dial TT Sub for some variety... it’s not a dress watch but I think it can easily be dressed up or down . I wear mine with suits or smart casual dress and casual shorts and T-shirt ... It’s actuslly quite versatile... |

I would go with a jubilee bracelet rather than an oyster bracelet for suits. So pretty much the DJ line or vintage TT GMT jubilee for me.
