Weird AD experience

Just enjoyed a good dinner at a local mall. After dinner, girls wanted to shop at the mall. Alas it was an opportunity to drop by an AD since I’ve been hunting for a BLNR like many of us. Walked into the store and immediately asked if they can help me find anything. I said “Batman” and three sales reps all started laughing in unison and said ok see ya. Honestly I was appalled for being so unwelcomed. I am well aware of current market weather but don’t just shoo away customers. Guess they thought I was a flipper looking to make a quick buck...

I’d never refer to it as the nickname at an AD. Can’t blame them either, I know your experience is isolated but I imagine you might have been the tenth person that day to say the same thing?

They probably thought you literally meant the kid's superhero and not the BLNR. I would have laughed too if a grown-ass man came in asking to help him find Batman.

To funny!

You get beat up there and here!
Maybe they didn't want to blow his cover. He might have been in the Bat cave! I say call them what you want. I like how Tudor beat everyone to the punch and nicknamed the Tudor Black Bay 79030N the Fifty-Eight. That way nobody gets on our case for calling it the 58!

I don’t care if it is a joke / they heard it 1000 times that’s poor customer service. You can laugh but at least give reasons why the BLNR is hard to find. Not everyone is a member on this forum and know the shortages on certain models.

I am a little amazed some agree with them and say don’t blame them.

Nothing you can do but I hope you get your BLNR and one day can walk in and laugh at them on the commission they lost!!!!

HA.
I’ve been to this dealer before and asked by a specific model name and they had no clue, that’s exactly why I asked for Batman which somehow is the familiar term for them.

It also amazes how many people get up in arms about a nickname. If you really get bent out of shape about this I feel sorry for you and you are not enjoying life.

It was an AD in Maryland. I will give them a benefit of doubt for now.

My AD calls it batman all the time. The quote I got had "batman" written on it as well. Of course they changed it to BLNR on the official receipt.

Well when I walked into Tourneau in Westchester, NY and asked about a Daytona the sales person chuckled and pretty much dismissed me...few weeks later I purchased my Daytona from another AD. Several purchases since, including Rolex for the wife, Omega for my Son, etc. While my initial encounter was a few years ago I will never enter that store again for anything. Oh well their loss...

Doesn’t matter to me what others call it, just that I choose not to.

I agree it’s poor customer service but I’m sure something like this happens all the time—people walking in wanting certain models and the AD giving poor service. Makes you appreciate the good ADs out there.

And this is why I buy from grey. The very minor plus or slight discount, depending on model, is well worth not having to be judged by someone working commission on my potential spend. Five out of six of my purchases have been grey. The only one Ad was a BLNR I called up, they had, I bought. Without having to take their kids to day care and send them roses every week for 12 months.

With batman markup of 35% on Grey market and not available at af, I feel sorry for the AD sales staff. They would love to have this watch to sell to you. They would love a five minute sale.
Most jewelry stores do "rotate turns" on walk-ins. Most jewelry stores have some type of "beat your three month average this month to get full bonus" plan. Every time someone walks in to ask about a watch they will never have to sell, that salesperson loses a turn to try and make commission. When this happens ten times to you in a day, I can understand a salesperson might lose their perfect calm.
Problem is Rolex, not the sales staff.

Yeah good one especially if a “grown-ass man” who was at a Rolex AD used a common nickname for a popular watch? Come on buddy

They are laughing because the shortage has passed the silly point.

Sales people are just standing around bored out of their minds and they are tired of repeating the same old tired story over, over, over and over again.

I'm still pondering your opening line:
" had a *good* dinner at a mall..."

That's funny man! They must have a bitchin' Food Court.

Also sorry about your AD experience, but you were kinda' asking for it when you used the nickname. However, If it were me, I'd never buy so much as a springbar from them.

Don't worry you'll get your watch, just keep looking and be patient.

Mark

I went into an AD last weekend and asked for a SS BLRO and she replied “ah, the Pepsi”...go figure.

With other customers or grey dealers offering to bundle a blnr with a PM or those with a long history at an AD will most definetly get priority and first calls to ss watches over someone walking into an AD

However I don’t appreciate their lack of professionalism. I’ve walked into ADs when I’m out of town and had no history there but was treated with respect
So the answer can still be “no” but not in a rude way!

I'm sure they knew exactly what you meant. I'm also sure a flipper wouldn't walk in and be so blatent. Too bad, they sound like a weak sales staff. You walked in, they should have spent their precious time with you instead of trying to instantly qualify you. They could have at least tried to sell you something else.

I don’t think the nickname had anything to do with their laughter. They were laughing because of the shortage of the model and how insane it would be if they had one just laying in their display case. It’s like going into the corner liquor store and asking “you guys have any Pappy? I need a few bottles”.

If any retailer is a position to make fun of their customers I don’t think they need my business. I’m sure if you asked “do you have one of those bling bling diamond Datejusts?” They would have tripped over each other to show you the 50 PM watches that they can’t sell regardless of what you called them.
