Your road to the Daytona 116500LN

Hi TRF,

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else but interested to hear your stories on how you were able to obtain the amazing Daytona C. Did you have multiple purchases with the AD prior? Bought from a grey? Just got lucky?

For me, I'm fully aware of the wait times and this is on my wish list to add to the collection.

Appreciate your time!

You cannot really get that by luck :) I got mine from grey one year ago while it wasn't as expensive at that time.

To some it might be amazing but to myself it's just a almost 20 years old cosmetically changed watch with a ceramic insert and slightly different dial. But some must think its amazing as many seem to pay crazy money for them. And while there are those willing to pay crazy money for them most sold will end up on the grey market. But its there money to spend on what they like, myself not a fan of the modern Daytona in any of its forms .

Talked watches a fair bit with fellow WIS AD. Bought several pieces including sub C, BLNR, Hulk and jewelry/ring for significant other. Got my hands on black dial SS daytona about 2 years post basel release. Good luck!

Walked into an AD i had never been in and asked if they could get me one. It was a couple days after Basel and they said no problem. I had to put a deposit down and a few weeks later they called and let me know they had one with a black dial. I went and looked but decided to wait for the white dual. About three or four weeks later they called me to come pick it up.

Went into the local AD and inquired about the wait time figuring at least a year. Mentioned a personal connection with the owner, which in turn resulted in sidestepping the wait list. They figured the black dial would be easier to source but I said I was interested in either dial color. They said probably 6-12 month wait. Received a call two weeks later as Valentine's surprise, that a white dial was available if I wanted it...Sold...

Have a great AD relationship built over years of purchases and becoming friends. I contact them regularly and stop in randomly to say hello to see what's in store.

Depends on dealer. Have bought a couple Rolex from Mayors, even sent friends to them who bought... still waiting years for the call.. LOL!

Maybe my phone will ring for the Pepsi as called a few seconds after it was announced.

Everyone's going to have wildly different accounts. Here's mine. I bought a white dial about a year ago from DavidSW. At the time I thought I was crazy spending over msrp but since then the asking price has come up 5-7k above what I paid (in just one year!). However I was trying all along like everyone else to get one at msrp. I have bought a couple watches from my local AD and I pop in regularly just to show interest and talk watches, they seem to like me, but obviously not enough because never receive any indication it will ever happen. A few months back I decided to branch out and went to an AD a few hours from me, they seemed pleasant right off the bat, even offered me a nice discount on watches without having to ask. I pulled the trigger on a watch they had to special order, still hooked me up with the nice discount.... and about a month later I just got the call for a black daytona C thats arriving today. People are right when they say the AD choses you and not the other way around.

I was on the phone with my AD as soon as they opened the day it was announced. They made the list for me. Took about a year and a lot of bothering them to get mine. I'm 100% certain that in today's climate I would have 0% chance of getting one.

ADs take lists for them still? Walked in today to a place and they said the wait is 7 years. Wonder why people pay whatever it is to get what they want.

In the process of making several purchases our AD offered us a black Daytona, and then a white Daytona. We bought both of course. We were never on a 'list' for either. They just saw us quite a bit over the course of a year and took care of us.

In short I would say we earned them.

I had to wait over 2 years for my white SS. Finally got it last month. Can say it was definitely worth the wait and did not underwhelm me once it was finally on my wrist

The daily challenge for many of us.
Don’t lose hope...I’m waiting along with you and millions of others. By the time it comes to me I’m sure the new Titanium Daytona will be out.

Is it possible they realized you had both and still wanted more and assumed you had to be selling? If I'm an AD I'm wondering why anyone would want a third

Tbh... If you want a rare watch and you've got the funds. I find being quite blunt about it has always helped. That's how I got my Sky-D.

I asked what I needed to spend / buy to get a Sky-D and they told me "x".
