Any advantage in buying newer serial year model?
Hypothetically.....if you had to pay a small amount more for a random serial versus say a 2010, would you do so?
I know watches are not necessarily like cars.....but would you rather buy a newer year versus a little older (obviously assuming the watch has not been updated by Rolex in that timeframe). |

Not for me, unless it still has factory warranty left--and even then, I have never used Rolex warranty in 30 years. Now if the price and condition is the same I would go as new as possible.
But would not pay more just for a random serial all else being equal.

Considering both are the exact same models movements condition etc, yes I’d go with the newer one.

All things being completely equal, I personally would pay a "small" amount for a newer watch. Less wear is still less wear. But it's pretty rare when everything else is exactly equal.

You should buy the watch in the best condition of the model, and in the era that you choose, with the features you want.
You should never pay more for a poor watch just because it is newer - there is no advantage.

Yes, you can read the serial number instantly.
