Please help...

Hi all,

Newbie here so please could you help with the following:

I’m buying a new BLNR from a private seller and it’s only a few weeks old as the seller bought it from AD. As such, the AD has kept the warranty card and the seller is asking for X amount up front for the watch and then X amount in 11 months time when the card is ready to be sent onto me.

Can you please let me know how this process works in terms of what the seller needs to do in order for my watch to be guaranteed whilst I have it and for me to also get the card when it’s released by the AD?

Many thanks in advance!

Personally, I wouldn't get into an option where I pay X amount of money to a seller without any offical document.

I would only buy it as both the money and watch with its full set are on the table.

Agreed with above. Too many options out there for you to buy with the card.

Thanks. £7500 upfront with £400 for the warranty card when it’s ready. £7,900 in total seems reasonable. On these figures would you still say no given I’m going to have to pay around £8,700 for the same thing but with the card? Thank you

It sounds messy but actually you are getting a good deal as not many sellers would not take the whole amount now. As it stands in the UK at the moment, even if you don't have the warranty card or are not the named original buyer with the AD you will still be covered by RSC should you have a problem, but this could change at any moment once Rolex realise this will only have a deterrent effect on flippers if the warranty is invalid without the card.

I would just make sure the watch is real and the discount and no warranty is not because the watch is fake or stolen, you have to really trust the buyer.

I wouldnt have a problem with that deal if you really want the watch. Only potential catch is if you never see the warranty card. You obviously wouldnt pay him the extra but then your set is incomplete. If that hitch doesnt bother you I would go fo it.

The seller might have to go with your watch to the AD after a year to get the card, likelihood ?

Thanks for your help guys. I think so long as the watch isn’t stolen I don’t have a problem with the deal. Do you think getting the seller to call the AD when I go to collect so as I can get confirmation it’s real etc would be sufficient?

Thanks again

Whatever happened to buy the seller? Lots of folks giving advice about the “deal” without knowing squat about the seller himself.

A photocopy of the warranty card? Is it possible that the AD will give him this, you can then cross ref the serial numbers. Also, how does the seller feel about taking you to the AD now to verify the watch as legit ... he can spin some yarn about falling on hard times and having no option but to sell the watch etc.

The deal is decent .... if all is legit ... any hint of the seller not being prepared to have the watch verified etc would have me moving sharply away from the deal.

Good point. But if the watch has AD receipt and the rest of the kit with it and I can get confirmation that the AD has the warranty card, there’s nothing to not like is there? Maybe I’m missing something though?!

As suggested above, why don’t you guys meet at the AD and talk to the sales associate about the watch?

If they recognize the buyer, remember the sale, verify the serial number for you, you can feel that much more comfortable with the purchase.

Also, while you’re there, you might as well ask for a copy of the warranty card

What if this guy disappears in 11 months (moves, passes away, etc). Sounds like you are itching for this so at the very least you need a copy of the card. I suggest he asks the AD for a copy stating that the insurance company is asking for it.

I've seen UK supplied watches where the AD has kept the warranty card for sale on chorno24.
The seller usually has a photocopy of the card itself.

Thanks guys. I think a photocopy of the warranty card is going to be a condition. But even if I get that, what happens in 11 months time when the actual card is sent to him. Does the seller phone the dealer to say it’s been sold to me or do we just keep quiet and get the card sent to him and then he sends it on to me? If the latter, what happens if something happens to him in the meantime, passes away, moves away etc?

Thanks again for the help!

Update - he has sent me a photo of the warranty card with model number and serial number clearly shown but doesn’t have a photocopy. Should I insist that I want confirmation from the dealer that this watch and card belongs to him? Cheers

If the seller is someone you trust, then why not. You want the watch. The price is good. If the seller is unknown, not a bricks and mortar business, then run.
