What my AD will and will NOT order

Interesting thing today, I went to my AD to try and purchase myself a Polar Exp II. I really don't get the ordering practice. I was told that another employee currently has a Polar on order for someone else and they can't order me one, until he receives his. So, you can only order 1 at a time? I just don't get this practice. I'm told that these aren't like the other professional models. They are readily available. also, here is a list what they apparently can and can't order for people.

No date Sub.....orderable

Date Sub........non-orderable

Green Sub......non-orderable

BLNR GMT .....non-orderable

BLRO GMT..... non-orderable

Black GMT.....believe it or not....orderable

both Expl II white/black dial....orderable

Daytona C.....Non orderable

That being said, the ones that are "orderable" i think the AD is being picky on who they order them for.

As far as I know AD's do not get to choose which watches they are sent.

Shipment arrive randomly and most AD have zero ideas what to expect until they open the containers.

They can order specific models, I was in a local AD just this weekend with a couple ordering a Rolex next to me. The manager said they could order certain watches.

I think they get what they get. All at the mercy of Rolex.

I was under the impression the AD can order certain models, but it’s up to Rolex to decide if they will fulfill the order. Just curious, what AD did you go to OP?

Yeah I believe it’s like walking up to a DJ at a club. You can make requests but you might not like the answer

I ordered a ND Sub and a Ceramic Pepsi GMT together. I was told to wait “years” for the GMT and “6 months” for the Sub. Sub came after 1 month. Make sense of that....

I think it's more like they have say 20 names on a list for a watch so they stop taking more names because they know they will be unable to fulfill as they know they only get one or two of those watches in a period of time..

This. My AD said that they only get notified which watches they’ll be receiving when they’re shipped from Rolex HQ. They take what they get.

Under special circumstances ADs can order specific references above their regular shipment.

Well there are huge desirability differences between these pieces.
However I did wait a while for my ND and during that time could have had 2 date models.

I think your AD might be technically right but they will have a standing order for all SS Sport Models and would take all that they could receive. It might be about setting expectations for customers and managing a market of customer with limited inventory. With that said, why do you not look at our Trusted Sellers and see The Explorer II at a discount NIB and an even better deal for slightly pre-owned and complete. You pay and the watch will be to you by 1030 the next day. No issues and the Explorer II is one of the few watches that is still currently discounted. Go get your watch, save a few dollars and skip the difficulties at the AD's. I did and do.

Actually they get a hint what’s in the shipment! My Pepsi and white Daytona myAD told me they’re coming in the next shipment and they did!

In this case, I think “orderable” means comes in with regular frequency, as opposed to actually calling HQ and getting one. You can order ONE, because that’s an actual list to get the next one. Or maybe they’re being discontinued and they want to move all the stock?
Who knows with these guys? They’ll say anything for a sale.
The AD management must know that lack of access is driving people to other luxury brands.

This is consistent with my experience, although I am sure VIPs are higher on the food chain

Very likely. A local AD (since gone) once told me Rolex determined what models he should have based upon their own mysterious reasoning. He was quite frustrated with them.

Think of your AD as an extension of you ... they want what you want and Rolex gives them what they want.

Nobody’s completely happy

Time to get a watch I said
As I lay down for bed
With dreams of Rolex flying through my head
One one to order?
It should be easy, I think they said...

As I stepped into my authorized dealer
I spied a half-filled display case
The sales lady descended on me with grace

"Which Datejust would you like to try?" she asked
"Ah ha!" I said..., "I'm here for the Pepsi!"
"I'm sorry sir we have no Pepsi, you do seem nice so how about a Diet Coke, WITH ICE?"
"Oh no!" I said..., "You must understand..."
"I mean the GMT with the extra hand."

I cannot order you a GMT in red and blue...
I cannot order you a GMT even if you argue!
A no date Sub, that I can do.
How about you pay in full, what say you?

I cannot accept I'm afraid.
What about one with a date, can that deal be made?

For you I am unable to order that piece
I have some lovely Lady's Datejusts one might suit your niece?

Ok, what about a Submariner in green?
Surely a store of your stature will be keen

Alas sir, I must decline
I see your Diet Coke is finished
Would you care for a glass of wine?

Fine then, let's try something else
The internet said
If I didn't have a Stainless Daytona there's something wrong with my head
White dial only or else I'll be scarred
Let's write up the order, let me get my card

At this point she let out a thunderous laugh
It attracted the attention of all the sales staff

Sir if you must have a white dial
Maybe an Explorer 2 I can do
If you pay in full it'll be here in one month or two!
Just one problem though, someone has one on order
You'll have to wait until they take delivery
Certainly sir, you'll agree this is chivalry

Not sure what to do in this situation
I posted to rolexforums.com without hesitation
Instead of being met with condolence and a warm wish
The words of an awful poet
Are all I have to show for it...

All Rolex in the catalogue are orderable, AD orders what they want like a "wishlist", But they don't know what Rolex will send until they get a shipping notification with what's in the order, Rolex sends whatever they want.
