Icon20 Good reason to quit drinking!!!!

Three months ago I quit drinking alcoholic drinks. I lived and worked in Nigeria for almost three years, where I used to drink so much every night. I put a target infront of me to quit drinking which is saving almost US $ 500 per month at least. This means US$ 6,000 annually. Now, I will be able to buy a new ROLEX amost every year and my eagerness to be a ROLEX collector saved my health. Is it a good idea and reason to quit drinking???????

Thanks,
Ahmed

I was saving the same amount of money because i quit cigarettes, drinks and coffee and that's how i managed to buy my GMT II C.

Most of the people don't/didn't believe me but finally there is somebody else that is going to do the same thing

Ahmed, let me see if I got this right?
For the past three years you've been flying your airplane drunk or did you stop flying when in Nigeria?

I did not fly in Nigeria before, either in Egypt or Cyprus. It is just a hobby dude and I have never done this for money before. The only times I drank in airplanes were while I used to travel from Cairo to New York on direct flights as a passenger ( 12 direct hours) Half a botle of whisky was not enough

I couldn't quit smoking before. Tried more than one time and I returned back worse than before. Now I smoke almost 40 sticks per day Quiting drinking is much easier than smoking

I have a friend who smokes a lot. I've known him since university.

I was over at his place a couple months ago and I must have accompanied him outside for a smoke at least 6 time in one evening. I figure he spends something like $160 a month on a carton of smokes.

He's questioned me a number of times about why would I buy a Rolex. I return the favour by telling him how much money he's wasted in the past 20 years buying cigarettes. That usually ends the coversation.

Problem is, a couple months later, the same conversation comes up.

Seems smoking is more acceptable than Rolex ownership.

Very true. Also you left out the DUI saving. The first time you get caught dui is about 13,000 dollars, including fees and litigation, the second time 20,000, the third time 26,000, and so on and so forth. See how these savings all add up to different Rolexes each year.

That all depends on the social circle.

Despite my fun pics, I'm all about moderation.

Mate, I tried giving up sex, smoking and drinking - trust me when I tell you it was the worst 15 minutes of my life.

I admire you for giving it a go.

$500 per month may not be a large amount of alcohol.

For example, if you like to drink nice wine.... a bottle may cost $40 (or more)...

If you drink 2 glasses a day that is $20 per day.

And multiply that by 30 days.... then you have $600 per month.

A couple of drinks per day for a man is actually a healthy thing to do ....

I really have no regrets when it comes to how I've lived my life.

My worst errors in judgement have led to some of the most exhilarating times in my life.

It does give me pause to think just how many nice things I could have financed with the money I spent on booze and cigarettes before I came to my senses and gave them both up.

C'est la vie.

At first I thought you must be some alcoholic, but then I remembered it's possible you just buy really nice Vodka or wine / champagne.

In any case, congrats on choosing a healthier (maybe?) addiction!

Congrats !

I stopped smoking and else for my ROlex.

Its always a good choice.

I suggest you read "Easy way to stop smoking" by Alen Carr, it helped me a lot, so did it for my girl friend and 2 other friends who quitted last year !

Congrats !!!
