I will be the first to admit that i'm extremely hard on watches and will not hesitate to rummage in a tool box with my watch hand. But this is something quite unexpected given the 1) time that i've had it and 2) the environments that i've been in. Compared to my [originally owned] U series SD, no such 'embellishment' is evident at all on the SD bezel so i was just wondering what you guys think and if other DS owners have taken a 10x loupe for a micro inspection of their charges.

Just to clarify, when you say "manufacturing defect", do you mean (1) it came like that, or (2) that is the result of a lick during a tool box rummage?

That would be the least of my worries. I'm the kind of guy who likes the sharp edges knocked off of things anyway. I've been that way since I was little. It's funny how people are different in ways like that. I just looked down at my bezel and noticed a few nicks and dings. I like them, so long as they aren't *too* deep and so long as they don't impair function.

Just put the thing away and enjoy your watch !
PS: ROLEX is going to charge you even if YOU try to "Charge them" with the imperfection; as its difficult to prove that it is a mfg defect or QC miss if you want it replaced. Thing is the AD could've done this also, so either way you still have to prove it...
Next time, bring your loupe along when you buy, then there can BE NO stone left unturned, check everything:
1.The dial for paint imperfections
2.Luminova overflowing the surround markers
3.misalignment of markers
4.rehaut engraving flaws
5.micro-filament present on dial
6.inconsistant thickness of applied...
the list goes on and on...

Also, your lower picture has a scratch consistent with the direction of the gouge, it appears at about 1 o'clock of the gouge or whatever you want to call it -

I like your list, problem is, AD's usually don't have enough stock of the model you may be considering to make a selection. They usually have 2 and if it's a popular model, only 1. If they have 2, there is very likely an imperfection in each. If you have a loupe, you are limited to one or the other. It depends on what defect you can live with and which you can't.

The only other alternative is to ask the AD to keep ordering in more stock until you find the one you like.

, you guys are great! Yes, getting the loupe has been a bane [especially to my older watches] but an eye opener to the beautiful crafting of our timepieces and no regrets. I agree the more probable scenario is that it is self-inflicted tho if other DS owners notice the same cleanly bevelled edge, i would think it unthinkable yet unique that Rolex let this one slip.
Realworld tho, it is not visible to the naked eye. The piece is working perfectly. It now has an additional character to it. My query is not to claim on the issue, but just to raise a point of interest. I will not change the bezel. But, if Rolex has some kind of recall.....i'm split 80:20 that i will go have it changed.
Oh and PS: Sorry about the poor picture quality, there is no other sign of impact. its just lint from my polishing cloth.

if ROLEX did indeed have a problem with bezels; having them fix it at a service center would mean you would be without the watch for a MINIMUM 4 weeks and also you run the risk of them screwing something else up - MURPHY's LAW always plays into when people do stuff like this I GUARANTEE it. Think of it - either they:
1.scratch the lug from prying the bezel off or at the least mar it
2.ding the case

That little spot would not even remotely bother me. IMO, don't even worry about it. With enough wrist time, that little nick will be the least abuse your watch will get :). As for the "Watch-Out" section comment, I agree, that was uncalled for. I watch that section all the time, and it is definitely nice to see all those (insert word of choice here) persons trying to get away with selling fakes.
