First world dilemma!

So conflicted and confused. I think I am over thinking things.

My back story is I bought a 5 digit sea dweller back in 2002 and recently sold it.

It doubled in price and thought I wanted to branch out and have a few watches rather than just one.

I bought a Tudor GMT and Pelagos LHD. The Pelagos felt so similar to my SD. But I never quite got on with the GMT. Was too tall and didn’t look right on a nato and the bracelet was just too wide in comparison to the Rolex band. So it went for a profit. I then made a rash decision and bought an omega planet ocean. I wanted to diversify and have something different to the Rolex’s and Tudor’s. that got returned. Nothing like the quality of Rolex. Amazing bracelet though.

I needed a Rolex and didn’t really want to give up my Pelagos. I had added to my pot with the deals I had done and bought a mark 1 dial Explorer 1. 2010 unworn condition.

I do love it but it is so different to anything I’ve owned before and feels slim. Maybe too slim?

I have been back on chrono24 and looking around.

What would you guys do. Keep the 2 I have? Sell both and buy something else that fits the bill of a go anywhere sports watch? Price wise the options to consolidate are a no date sub. So predictable and I feel after a sea dweller it feels like a down grade. The other is something a little different with the Explorer 2 42mm. Pretty unusual and interesting. 42mm case like the seadweller anniversary.

Help!!

How long have you owned those two? Sometimes it’s best to slow down and see if what you have works. It sounds like maybe the SD was the right watch after all ...

In terms of modern references the EXP 2 is a great reference, and wears slimmer than your Pelagos.

I think that’s what’s happening!! I need to just stop for a second. I’m going to hold out until Basel is over and see what’s on the bill then. I’m not sure the multiple watch thing is for me. Hate choosing what to wear. Can’t go back to 5 digit bracelet. Just pain with the way Rolex is just now you can’t go somewhere and try them all on and choose!

You will find the right watch...it may take a little time. There is no urgency to it. Enjoy the journey.

I think you’d get along great with the Explorer 2. It seems like you want a larger watch that wears well, and it adds a useful complication.

It surprised me quite how much I liked the GMT complication. It’s also my 40th next year. I still have an itch for an omega, just not a 46mm one! If I had the explorer 2 42mm and then a hesalite moon watch that might tick all the boxes.

Now if Tudor come out with a sub that’s just going to complicate everything!!

What I have learnt is that nothing can replace a Rolex. No matter how good.

The other issue with the explorer is which one! White or black. The white is very cool
And interesting but the black is much classier. Love the Matt dual!

Black it would have to be.

I feel sometime this place facilitates my illness! Ha!

Sub Ceramic No Date ... plus ... DJ 40 or 36 flutted bezel blue dial roulette date on Jubilee ... and you have it all ;-) ... ever-last sport and dress ... if it was just about 2 piece collection ... mine adds up Hulk, Explorer 1 and Pepsi 16710 ... the rest of nice pieces like Zenith, IWC, UN, Omega, Seiko... seem to wait for departure soon

I would have stayed put with the GMT and the LHD, but with your current combo, I think I would swap the EXP for an EXP2. And then chill for a while.

My max total is £7000. It’s too much extra. Plus I hate the magnifier on a sea dweller. So wrong.

Plus the pelagos. I was thinking maybe going for a DSSD? I have always loved them. Definitely an upgrade to the seadweller! Maybe a bit big.

I would add for the OP that the pics show what looks like a pretty thin wrist. The big Expl II or DSSD will likely seem really big on your wrist. Perhaps snag a 16570. I think that would scratch your itch for a while.

Can’t go back to a 5 digit Rolex. That bracelet is too clincky! Plus I think again the 40mm case that’s thinner than my original seadweller would be a little dainty for me.

I think buying and flipping is just part of it. I found my watch pretty quick - the Explorer II - then flipped it because I thought I had to have a ceramic bezel. Picked up an SD4K, loved it, but missed the Explorer II immediately. Bought my Explorer II back and never looked back. Point is, it definitely takes some time to figure out the watch/watches for you. That's part of the fun in my opinion.

If the Explorer seems too small for you I'd move on to something else. I had the Explorer twice. I always love it, but then when I have it, it doesn't get much wrist time.

I think the best watch for me would be the SD4K. Pity it’s just too expensive.

That is a great watch to be fair. If you think you should be a one watch guy, sell what you have and add to your £7k you’ll easily afford one. I sold mine a few years ago; big regrets.
