Oysterflex PM watches are overvalued and overpriced - Here’s why

For example an Oysterflex Daytona retails at $29,000. You’re getting a watch that is half rubber and half gold. A full gold Daytona retails at $37,000 and has twice as much gold than than the OF piece. A true fair price for an Oysterflex PM in my estimation should be no more than 19k retail. You’re basically paying an extra 10k for the rubber strap. Just my .02.

Yeah because full PM has ~$24k worth of gold, haha.

Lol I hear you. Believe me I have plenty of friends who could careless about watches tell me, all the time what a fool I am to spend nearly 10k on a stainless steel watch. He thinks it doesn’t cost Rolex more than $1500 to make a steel Sub.

You should check out platinum watches it will numb your brain.

So you would pay 18k for a gold Daytona bracelet?

So if you take a 37k gold watch as your baseline, what should a SS Daytona be 'worth'?
And the t-shirt you are wearing?
The car you drive?

Any "innovation" Rolex makes, no matter how minor LOL, will command a huge premium. Why? Because people still buy from a company that has failed to innovate in a very long time.

Couldn’t agree more. It sure seems like Rolex has failed to innovate for a very long time now. No new lines and also this Baselworld 2019 was very disappointing.

Rolex, and the rest, know how to play with our emotions.
At the end of the day, people are buying.

It's all about positioning.

By “innovate” and “a very long time”, what do you mean when talking about Rolex as a mechanical watch company?

I payed thousands of $ for a watch that has no precious metals. I think the price was perfectly fair.

I suspect the real issue will be longer-term used prices. It is the bracelet models which are more likely to be sought-after. Not least because of the sheer hassle over the fit of the rubber versions. The ‘bulk‘ of the gold bracelet also feels a lot nicer.

If you try to rationalize the purchase of luxury goods you won’t ever appreciate it. Are Birkins worth it?

If looking from another aspect, one could save 8k if opt for Oysterflex Daytona. Afterall, the Oysterflex Daytona is still a Daytona and a very pretty one too.

As well as ignoring the fact that the price of a watch has no relevance to what material value it has, you're forgetting the clasp. There's a big chunk of gold in that.

Turning it round - even if you look at the raw numbers, are the bracelet links in an all gold Daytona really worth the extra $8,000 ?

what about the same priced Daytona on leather? always the argument with Rubber, always.

What about a dress watch on leather?

So you want a full gold case watch to cost about the same as a TT daytona? which is basically SS with a small amount of gold? makes no sense
