Rolex limiting the # of purchases per year per AD..

Was at the Rolex AD today to get my mother in law's OP serviced ..

The salesperson shared with me that Rolex is asking AD's to only sell 1 (one) sports model per person per year. (not sure if it was just for SS or for PM too)

Sounds like an attempt to reign in the grey market, but just feels so weird.

so that would be 2 total sales for the year, given the current stock at ADs

Hi,

I heard something like this in the past, get on veru well with my AD and they always jokes that I’ve exceeded my quota of SS watches...but not stop me buying what I’ve wanted but they know that I like to wear all that I buy so guess it’s a safe bet for them anyway.

I would believe it if it was one reference of the model per year. E.g. 1 Submariner SS + 1 GMT SS +1 etc. per year instead of letting a person buy multiple Subs in the same year (assuming you can even get them).

Rolex doesn't dictate the sales policy. It's mainly up to the store on how or who they sell the watch to. E.g. Sell watch, keep warranty card for X period of time. Must purchase $X or X number of watches before getting on the waitlist or being offered a certain watch.

If that is specific to SS, I find that very reasonable to ask.

There could be lots of rumours going around. But with demand and supply as it is, this could be plausible.
Time to look at other brands or interests.

Given the number of Rolex watches produced every year, I seriously doubt this is something that Rolex is trying to have ADs enforce...

I was told by a BB manager in Texas the same thing. He said they started this after their January meeting with Rolex rep. Something about watches now being allocated directly to the individual stores instead of thru Corporate VP’s.

Nobody reasonable would complain if you could buy any SS reference you want, but only once a year.

I believe this to be a reaction to the possibility of getting caught selling to a flipper.

A very well respected source here in the industry told me that some AD's had their status yanked due to being caught providing watches to a well known TS.

My AD has a ‘contract’ that I have signed on purchase of a SS Rolex that states.
They keep the guarantee card for 12 months.
If watch is sold within 3 years then it has to be sold back to them
Only 1 watch of any model can be bought. (When I picked up the Hulk I already had a SubC no date but was told that was not the same model)
If the above are not followed then they will no longer deal with me.

I think I’d say pass. They could keep it all. Lol. Doubt that would fly in the US, esp Texas.

I've been dropping by my AD weekly and they never have said anything about an individual sales limit. I bet that policy is AD specific

FWIW I heard from a good friend that bought at BB in Jan that only one allocated watch per year per customer. New policy but it is still decided by the VP who gets the watch. The VP has 4 stores and picks who gets it based on previous purchases. Each salesperson has to submit a name and then a few days later the VP decides. It is definitely a BB policy and not Rolex and not across all ADs. Back before the market crash, BB also made you engrave the back of your SS Daytona before you left the store.
