Opinions - Daytona 116508 (Green Dial)

Hello fellow forum members,

Just wanted to gain your thoughts on the below (which I love and draws me in every time I see the pictures!).

Challenge is, I turned down the opportunity a couple of months ago to purchase this as I was hopeful that Rolex would introduce the Ceramic bezels to the rest of the Daytona line up...but clearly didn’t happen!

So I’m gutted as I could’ve already owned this watch but do I now pursue this watch or do you think it might be worth holding out for a newer (possibly Ceramic...if it was ever to exist)? I’m not one for flipping/selling my watches (only done it once to swap from a DJ36 to DJ41) and my worry is I’ll buy this and regret it OR it could be the best purchase as they may never do this green Dial again on a newer Daytona.

Anyway, enough waffling and hopefully you get the point so what are your thoughts...appreciated in advance!

I don't think a ceramic bezel would make this watch look better. See if your AD can get one for you now.

I agree that a ceramic bezel wouldn’t do this one justice and if you like it I’d grab it now. I also agree that an AD likely can get one. In Dallas it’s not uncommon to see the WG model on display and available for purchase.

Mr Mayer made your quest a lot more expensive but don’t give up...you’ll get it.

It's a stunning piece, personally I think a ceramic bezel would take away from it more than anything...of course we haven't seen what it would look like but I personally would go buy it. It's a beautiful piece. My favorite would be the 116509 blue dial/white gold, but this is up there. The green dial in person, especially in the sun, is brilliant.

Super awesome piece, highly considering purchasing myself actually, wanted something with a green dial for some time now. Went to my official Rolex store last weekend to inquire about it, they asked me to put down 50% and wait 6-8 months which is not that bad I think

I just had one special ordered by my AD. The first time I've ever bought a Rolex retail! I also got to create my stainless steel "wish list" (smh) and was told I'd get a Sub no date very quickly. Finally cracked the code (smh ... again) :)

One of my favourite watches. I think this watch looks better as it is without the Ceramic bezel.

The PM bezel is beautiful in its own right.

Go for it. This is my favorite Daytona by a good margin.

The ceramic issue is hype. Changing out a gold bezel for a cheaper material is not an upgrade. I hope Rolex leaves it alone. The scratch issue is far too overblown. I have yet to see one so scratched that it impacted ledgibility.

IMO, like the beautiful WG/blue dial Daytona, it would not benefit from a cerachrome bezel. I don't think a black or green bezel would look as good as the gold. The issue is whether or not you will mind the inevitable scuffs on the gold bezel. I have only had one Daytona and it has cerachrome, so can't really weigh in.

The green, like on every other Rolex I've seen except the olive green DD and OP, is bright. I think this is a specialty watch that would only be worn in certain situations and with certain attire. If your collection has room for a watch like that, it's a nice one. It's hard to believe a PM Daytona is hard to get at MSRP. I would think an AD would jump at the chance to order one for you.

Great looking no doubt. Only problem is how the pricing has skyrocketed lately and availability tough to come by. If your AD can come through, go for it!

I think it is a gorgeous watch but looks almost unreadable. It is so bling I see it almost more as jewelry instead of a watch. Just my opinion.

It’s great but I’d find limited versatility is that piece so I wouldn’t want all that $$ tied up in it

Been lusting after it for quite a while. If it's in your budget, move on it.

Yeah...ridiculous prices right now..$5-8k above retail. I thought about getting it recently, but the prices are too inflated, unless you’re willing to wait however long from an AD.
I don’t think a ceramic bezel would look very good on this one. (IMO)
