Black vs Blue Dweller.

Been thinking of picking up a Skydweller. I really like the black and the blue dial both. The black can be had for 17,000 or so, while the blue seems to be in the low 20s. Is it worth the premium? I know the blue is the “it” watch in scarcity. Thus the price difference. Just makes me wonder if the black were harder to get, would it be the one priced higher? I want the blue, but can’t help but think some of that is subconsciously affected by knowing it’s harder to get. Honest thing is I like them both. What are the groups thoughts on black vs blue? And white is out for me. Thx

I love them both. The blue is beautiful. Then it becomes personal.

In my case, I own three watches, two of them Rolex with really beautiful, striking blue dials. I own three watches with black dials, none of them Rolex. So a black dial Rolex fits my needs nicely and will balance out the Rolex part of my collection.

This is why I would buy SS black from a grey, or as I have done for my Sky Dweller, gone for TT black from my AD. And the black dial is sunburst, which is a bit unusual.

Your mileage will vary.

I’d look at the styles/colors of my current collection, and base it off that, if the blue/black are appealing to you equally.
Me personally, between those two... blue...100%. My favorite color is blue, and my first choice would never be black with a fluted dial. (JMO of course)

I prefer the blue but they are simply beautiful watches regardless of dial color. It is just choice - there is no wrong answer.

Only you can decide whether a dial-color is worth a $5-6k premium.

Speaking as a man, I think it would be embarrassing to pay that, but to each his own.

Most watches including Rolex are based on the black dial. When a choice is available and if that choice is the better looking as the Blue Sunburst is I would say the choice is obvious....BLUE.

I go against the grain here... I've always liked the black over the blue. The black sunburst dial is a really subtle twist and the red accents just go so well with it.

Ive had a colour dilemma as well. Here’s a thread I posted earlier. It might help with your decision.

I personally saw both alive... Black is very nice but BLUE !!! Blue is magnificent .. I am in the waiting list of the Blue but i think the phone will never ring... I'll go and buy the Blue one .
It guaranteed worth the premium.

You buy a watch to enjoy and not to show off that you are wearing a hard to get watch.

If you like the black as much as the blue, then in my books its a no brainer.

Save some $$$ and enjoy wearing the black!

Of course I am also totally unbiased....

Get the one you love! Life's too short to compromise on such things and you'll smile everytime you look at it instead of debating if you made the right decision.

Not sure what “being a man” has to do with it. Maybe it’s too machismo to spend money on any of these watches then.

I vote blue.

Sucker for Blue dialed rollies.

Blue YM
Blue Daytona

not so much for the smurf though.

Also think the blue red contrast seems more classier than a black red contrast

Women tend to color coordinate a lot more, so I can at least see the argument.

A man spending that much of a premium on a dial color seems odd to me.

I like all three and am considering one to use for travel when my ROC isn’t the best choice. Now I’m also considering a RubberB strap for times when I want to be more under the radar and the black strap with red accents looks great with the black dial. I’ve tried on the white one in person and really loved it too

The RubberB strap looks great but RubberB claims that it only fits the PM skydweller that comes with a leather strap. Not sure if that means that the deployant buckle is different or if also the lugs on the strap version are different than the on the bracelet version.

I may have a bit of a bias here because I own the blue, but I prefer it over the black dial model. IMO the blue just pops more than the plain black dial.

both are really beautiful. Just comes down to preference. When you lay it out and see you're basically paying 3k or more for the dial color, it does sounds a little crazy. But when you say you want to spend 17k on a watch, it doesn't make it much better haha.

All I can say is that if you decide you want the blue, don't settle for black. Get what you really want.

All that said, I really do like them both. Black will probably be a little more versatile for most, but the blue is one of the most beautiful watches I've ever owned, and seen for that matter.

Pics...

I think black is more classic and blue is more vibrant and fun.. as someone mentioned, depends on your current collection. Can’t go wrong either way though

I wanted the blue from Day 1 as I passed twice on the black dal. First, the black is REALLY nice and I love the glossiness of the black dial. I finally got my blue dial about 6 months ago and its my favorite watch of ALL TIME! That being said, Im a huge blue fan and wear blue of some shade nearly every day so it really works for me. Think which would be better in your wardrobe would be my advice
