I need help deciding between Rolex and PP.

I thinking about trading my Rolex green sub and my Pam 112 that I haven't worn awhile for a new watch. I'm thinking about getting a day date 40 yellow gold with diamond on the dial or PP 5205R. What do you guys think between two of these. I have SS Daytona white dial and SS Datejust 41 with diamond in my collection as well. TIA

Personally I'd make the trade for a DD, it is a bit more versatile than the PP.

You will regret trading or selling green sub.

You had or have a Daytona?

You would recommend against PP, unless Nautilus or Aquanaut SS, and even those are a bit delicate.

If DD, I would personally stay away from diamonds (excessive bling), but that’s just me.

Trust me - keep the LV

Get that 5205! The case construction is superb. The lugs and the bezel are so beautiful! Here is my G.

The Patek is way above DD in terms of quality, and probably more understated than the DD, but I would agree with some comments above that the DD is more versatile.

Oh this is a tough one, these are both amongst my favourite watches. I would just go for the one that beer suits your style and your will get the most usage out of.

Just to offer a differing view, I'd stick with what you have. I don't have much interest in PM watches or that model Patek.

Are we talking LV or LVc when you say green sub?

I would choose the Patek 5205 every time.

Its a stunning watch and the usual unbeatable quality.

The day date is very similar to the datejust. So unless you trade the date just with the PAM for the day date, I think going the Pp route is better.

In any case, don't sell the green submariner

I agree with this. Keep the LV, it's an absolute classic!

How so? The Patek is of course fancier and more delicate, but I wouldn’t put it above Rolex for actual quality.

The 5205R is just pure class and I would take it any day over the LV.

I like the DD better and also believe it is a very good day to day watch. The DD and the DJ are redundant in my opinion in a small collection like you have. I know the value of the Hulk is a lot more than the value of the DJ but I believe it would be a mistake to trade it. Move the Panerai and the DJ, get a DD40 minus the diamonds and enjoy.

Don’t listen to the fan boys, dump the green sub. If your asking it’s not a “classic” for your collection so move it along. The DJ & DD can co-exist but I think the pp will compliment your collection nicely.

Good Luck

Lol. You are sliding down the same slippery slope i am on. I traded a rolex and Cartier for the 5205r. It is so beautiful.
But now ive lost interest in Rolex and am looking to add an audemars piquet Royal Oak.
This can get expensive.

Go PP here. Rolex is well represented in your collection. In my opinion the day date is great, but adds little versatility to your collection as you already have a DJ. With the PP, you really would have a versatile collection.

PP any day. DD is neither sports watch being constructed with solid gold nor real HH with simple movement. Also solid watch with a gold bracelet is too much. With PP you get real HH complicated movement and more elegant watch.

Personally, I think that specific Patek will look dated very quickly, and would take the DD in that specific heads up.

However, generally, at the DD price point for something dressy, I would prefer a Patek over a DD personally based on what else you've listed in your collection.

As usual, which one sparks that joy when you strap it on?

Why does everyone continue to compare Rolex to PP and which one to buy? lol In all seriousness I own both and the choice is simple. If I had to release one back into the wild the DD would be on it's way out without even thinking twice. Don't get me wrong the DD is a beautiful watch and very comfortable to wear but we are comparing a high end Ferrari to a low end Dodge at this point. Rolex isn't in the same class as PP so do the right thing and go PP.

Glad to see that I’m not the only one who thinks so. :)

I’d go day-date without hesitation, but it’s worth noting that I have essentially zero need or desire for a delicate watch that can’t get wet in my current circumstances.

Yes, I would go for this, RG and piano black dial is sumptuous but this blue is also very cool for a dress piece. And a DJ and D500 are great SS accompaniments.
