I know its a divers watch so is ok with swimming but just wanted to ask will these be ok in sauna and steam rooms ? I always like to have a watch on when im out and usually wear my rolex when going to gym and thats been fine for years in sauna/steam room but hear people say ap is more delicate or is that just rubbish and ap will also be fine ?

I take my diver in the steam room. Not sure if it's a good idea or not but I bought the thing so I could wear It. I have been in a sauna with it but since it's much hotter than a steam room I tend to limit my time in there.

A Royal Oak bracelet is pretty blingy for a sauna.

As long as it has good seals its no problem, they are not that delicate. Worn divers and ROs many times in saunas over the years. I rather risk my watches on the wrist rather than leaving in my hotel room.

I wear my 44mm offshore for everything at the gym; squash, treadmill, weights, circuits, pool, jacuzzi, sauna & checking out women in the bar upstairs.

I have to admit, I’m not a sauna guy. Are jewelry and luxury watches common in saunas?

Mine has been fine whenever it’s accompanied me.
It’s certified to iso standards which contains a thermal shock test too - meaning even using the plunge pool is fine.

I’ll just throw out there that this was my AP diver after a spa day, utilizing sauna, steam, jacuzzi, plunge pools etcs. This was a literally about 1 month after received back from ap service as well. I don’t think I’ll be wearing timepieces to spa anymore. Just my opinion.

Yeah, you never followed up to my question in that thread: Quote:
You replied back then that you weren’t sure. So... what did AP say? |

Yes it was under warranty, and the watch is perfectly fine now. But I have yet to test the water resistance again. I am going on a cruise this week so it will see some use there. But the whole process was more of just a hassle to deal with. You

I get that. What did AP do? Just clean and reseal? Did they need to replace anything major, like the dial or movement? |

I read in an article not that long ago that temperature extremes on an automatic movement are the equivalent of exposing it to shock from a high impact movement (i.e.-- golf swing), and should be avoided. The other thing is that high temps can ruin gaskets/seals. Now, it's very possible that AP divers were designed specifically to withstand the above-- I don't know, but I wouldn't take that chance unless I knew for sure. The last thing you want to do is void your warranty if something does happen to it from wearing in a sauna. Now, if you wearing the $750K watch that RM produced for Rafael Nadal that he wears while playing tennis, that would be a different story : ) |

Why on earth would you wear a watch in the gym or a sauna?

Why not ? I try to get to the gym mon-Friday and always go around lunch time so that means if i dont wear a watch to the gym i am out all day without a watch on and i like to always wear a watch. There was also a incident at our gym at the start of the year, a guy had a skeleton key for the lockers and was emptying lockers and because theres no cctv in the locker room they were struggling to find who it was. So i am definitely not putting my watch in a locker.
Seen one ap in the gym and a few rolex so far. |

Basically what AP service had told me in a nutshell. And also drastic changes in temp, like going from a sauna/steam room straight to a plunge pool. They said this is usually what causes the condensation within the watch. Not necessarily having lose seals etc.

But, if something had been damaged, I wonder if they would have covered it? FYI, I absolutely love your diver and wish I had the wrist to pull it off! I'll be getting the 42mm newly released 26480ti sometime soon -- I hope my wrist can pull it off. |

Of course, your call guys, but keep in mind that the rest of the world might not think it is a good idea for various reason, but feel free to ignore my humble advice.

Didn't Rolex have an ad a long time ago placing a watch in boiling water?

Yea, my wrist is 6.75” and I think I can barely pull it off. For myself, I wouldn’t go anything larger. The 5990 I just received is more of an ideal size to me.

This is correct. Is not to do with the seals. Unless watches are sealed with zero percent humidity and crown never opened.. any time there’s a fast cooling then condensation can appear Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

After having seen how the diver is put together in Clearwater - I have zero concerns about its water resistance.
For more info about the iso Standard See Wiki link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_Resistant_mark This actually allows for a thermal shock of 40C to 5C. Even in a 90C sauna, I would be surprised if a watch worn on the wrist would get too much hotter than that otherwise it would become uncomfortable to wear.

What is the likelihood of this occurring on a Rolex? Are they assembled the same way? Would a Seadweller for example be susceptible to the same issues?
