5167 now being made with C1 Superluminova instead of C3

No more yellow-green hue for the 5167, but also only 31% as bright as C3 according to at least one comparison I found on the internet.

C1 was already used on the 5164 since it was released. C3 has been on 5167 until now.

Thoughts?

I don't like it. Now I know why my 5164 had such weak lume and my 5167 glowed like a torch.

I’m surprised the C3 went well, they need C3 on the green, the C1 will match the 5167 and BGW9 will look perfect on the Blue model

Ya, not sure how I feel about it yet. On the one hand, every time I saw a 5164 I wondered why they didn’t have the same coloring on the 5167. But on the other hand, I kind of liked the idea of the 5167 having such strong lume. Kind of went with the whole under the radar somewhat anti-Patek vibe of that watch.

I think the short answer is the new lume will look better when it is not being used/well lit conditions, and the old lume will look better in low-light or no light environments.

One thing I noticed right away is the Arabic numerals are much more the focus of the dial with the new lume where as I thought the index markers were more the focus on the old lume.

Here are some pics of the new lume...

Obviously taken in daylight (and AD lighting), but I think it is very noticeable that it is "whiter" than the old lume.

Why are we going in the opposite direction of brightness?

I'm continually annoyed when my GShock MRG glows brighter than my Patek or Rolex.

I am certain that the brightness of the lumes of both versions are about the same. I had 5167 year 2015 and now 5167 year 2018.

I had 5164 before and the lumes are weaker than 5167. I believe it is due to the wider gap between the crystal and the dial due to many hands on 5164.

Just curious - does any of the lume experts know what they are using on the 5711 and 12 and if there has been any change during the production time?

FWIW one thing I noticed both on mine and on pics of other new 5711s is that the hands have slightly differently colored lume from the indices...

My Nautilus 5711 white dial from last year has very weak almost non existent lume. Now I know why. The Aquanaut really glows.

The 5167a lume is super bright probably one of the brightest out of my entire collection. The 5711 lume is horrible you can barely read it at night

I don’t think the 5711 uses C1 or C3 lume, but I am not positive.

I had 2 steel 5167 and currently a 67r. I was actually disappointed with the lume of the 67r when I first got it, but in daylight, the numbers are supercrisp and look awesome, so I don't really care about the lume strength anymore.
Seems like a bit of a downgrade for the steel 67 tho....

Here is my 5167a in a closet with no flash on the camera taken. It's crystal clear and bright I couldn't ask for a better lume.

Ya, the issue isn’t the lume in the dark, the C3 will crush the C1. The question is more about how it looks in bright light or low light conditions and whether the advantage of the C1 there (if any) offsets the disadvantage of the overall brightness versus the C3.

I think one could also argue that a more subtle lume may be better on a Patek than a Neon, in your face, glow. You can always buy a Seiko for that..

Wow, how depressing! Had the C3 version and truly enjoyed how she glowed. Since i tend to use my timepieces as daily beaters, there needs to be more brightness for real-world use. Stepping down to lower lume seems like a backwards step. What next can Patek lower the quality of? Patek bracelets will use low-end push pins instead of proper screws?

Again, i ask how much lower in quality can Patek go is the real question.

I love the lume on on the 5167a.
Maybe it's because i have a weakness for Panerai but it's one of my favourite things about it!
To me finding lume like that on a Patek is one of those little unexpected treats
life throws up.
The 5164a never stuck with me as each time I missed the 5167a!

For those who is wondering about the lume strength of C1 and C3.

They are equal in terms of lume strength. No downgrade or whatsoever.

C1 and C3 only difference is the color. Again not the color of the lume in the dark.

C1 is white and C3 has a little green tint.

I don’t think this is true. According to SuperLuminova chart online, C3 is 3x stronger than C1 after 30 minutes of full activation.

What was the transition date for new lume vs the old? Does anyone have a side by side of the two? Looks like the above pics are one or the other

You have C3. The hands and indexes on the C1 are bright white.
