Discount on pm models?

Hello:

I purchase my two tone sub from an AD about a year ago at a slight discount. Was wondering, with the current aftermarket prices, do AD's give slight discounts on PM models, like the CHNR?

You can get discounts on TT, Gold and Platinum models, but not the high demand ones.

Was offered 20% on a Platona last year.

Would be very surprised if you could get a discount on the CHNR. Sells above retail on the gray market.

Silly question, but as a haggling newbie, I wonder how you ask for a discount ? Do you go straight to the point, knowing that many of these models are slow movers (at least compared to steel versions) ?

I'd say, "I'll buy the watch right now if you are willing to give it to me for X". I would not act non-committal or as though you are wasting their time. Nor would I ask for their "best price" in an open ended way.

it depends on region of the market

This week I found in Lyon's AD 116509 Blue dial and 116505 chocolate dial in stock. No discount for them. AD's seller told me it's a big luck to find PM Daytona in stock

I’m friendly with my AD so I just politely ask if he’ll discount a piece. He gave me 7% on the recent 116519LN.

Would a 116518LN (gold oysterflex Daytona) be considered a high demand model? They seem to be going second hand for right around MSRP right now. I'm wondering if an AD would do a slight discount on one.

Of course, and also on the financial position of the AD you’re visiting.

Most discount you can expect on a PM is 9-10%. As far as the chnr there are no discounts on those pieces.

This sounds like a sensible approach, cheers.

long long long gone are those days of 20%+ discounts.

You will be lucky to get 10% these days and most likely a big fat ZERO discount on most models now.

I assume that everyone is ignoring the Cellini. You can definitely get 20% discount on a Cellini.

There's no rule of engagement. Just ask. Some ADs will, some won't and it always depends on the watch. But if you don't ask you don't get. For me the only hard rule is to be prepared to pay the full MSRP before attempting to negotiate. If I can't justify it or can't afford it, I should not be wasting the AD's time.

I was surprised to get a discount on a Polar in December 2017 which placed the new purchase cost at a level below what WF were asking for a second hand one. Likewise, the discount I received on a Blusey from the same AD in November 2018 was nice. They wouldn't budge on a Z-Blue. I know this because I asked - before happily handing over MSRP.

You must be a high roller to get 15% off that timepiece...

Tried to past earlier so sorry if double post
15% on PM Daytona! My AD in Atlanta told me they weren’t allowed to place orders for SS or PM daytonas currently which I find tough to believe. I am a previous Rolex customer there. Anyone know an AD who wants my business for a 116518LN or 116515LN for my personal collection
