Deep Sea is the HEAT!!!
I was recently fortunate enough to score a Deep Sea, and I am so impressed it's not even funny. I have to admit that I was one of those people that was not a fan when the watch first came out only because I was judging a book by its cover. After listening to all the reviews about the Deep Sea I decided to pull the trigger on one, and I have no regrets whatsoever!!! This Watch is without a doubt the finest new design that Rolex came out with in years. Rolex really showed every company that they make the toughest diving watch in the world.
As big as the watch looks, it flows on the wrist quite nicely. The Deep sea lights up so much nicer than in the Blue than the Green. The Bracelet is just F@#king incredible........ I play with the ratchet system for hours. I didnt expect to like the ring lock system writing on the inside.....but it's done so well that I cant complain....in a matter of fact Im even more impressed that Rolex was able to still squeeze in the Rolex on the inner part of the watch as well. I know that Im not a true wealth of knowledge when it comes to watches, and I know I pretty much recaptured what people most people have said about the deep sea.....but I figured it should come out of another happy Deep Sea owner as well. sorry for the crappy pics. |

So just how deep will you be taking it? Deeper than the depth that a submariner will go? hah. j/k. Nice watch, congrats, and enjoy!

I have to admit i m not a fan of the 'ring lock system' too when it first came out. I was at a AD planning to purchase a Panerai last week and the Deep Sea just caught my eyes. After playing with it a few minutes i cannot believe i pull the trigger and purchased one.

Welcome to The Club, Hank, always great to hear from another happy owner and even better from someone that is big enough to admit their first somewhat negative impressions did not stay reality.
As I'm sure you've already experienced, the watch is extremely comfortable to wear as a daily watch...absolutely zero complaints from me in the way of comfort. I still get a kick out of how it seems the majority of people that think it's too thick for a daily wearer always seem to say, "I think..." as opposed to, "I know from experience..." It hasn't come off my wrist in the almost 6 months since I bought it and I couldn't be happier. Viva la DeepSea!!! |

Next to the white-dial, SS, Zenith El Primero Daytona, this is by far one of the greatest pieces they've ever designed.

Looks like I'm kinda late on this thread, but I gotta say... I'm trying to decide b/t the SD and the SDDS as well - just hit an AD today to try on the SDDS. I've been reading all the 'stuff' online as well regarding the size being too big and the writing being too much. When I saw this thing in person and tried it on, all those 'negatives' just disappeared. It's just a beautiful piece of work, folks - period. Don't judge it by a super close-up image that's been blown up 1000%. I'm 5'8", 150 with really (really) small wrists and this thing feels quite comfortable on me. Don't get me wrong, it's huge alright, but at 43mm it's quite comparable to my Breitling. The height is the big differential of course, but again - quite comfortable on my small wrist... |

I am being offered a Deepsea in HK at a slight discount. I am also waiting for a Milgauss GV, which may not be available for a while. Any view of whether I should just pick up the Deepsea? I tried the Deepsea on earlier, but it just appear too big for my wrist...hmmm...

That said, I can state with 100% conviction that my DSSD has not been off my wrist for almost 6 months...it's without a doubt the best watch in my collection and I love everything about it. FINALLY, I found a watch that keeps my eye from wondering & I no longer have the constant pull to look/purchase more watches. If you knew me, that fact alone proves what a great watch the DS is! If you've owned other watches around this size & still think it looks too big, then it's probably not the watch for you. But, it may appear too big because you've never really worn watches of this size and therefore it's simply a matter of getting use to larger watches. Personally, I don't think the DS is very large...I've owned a few Omegas, Breitlings, Bell&Ross + 1 Fortis that were all bigger than the DS...so my 'adjustment' to the watch size was non-existent. Good luck. Cheers |

I'm a new member of this forum and I have enjoyed the comments regarding the various Rolex models. In particular though, I am interested in the comments regarding the Deep Sea size and comfort as this is a watch I am considering purchasing. I have a small gents wrist at about 6 in. At 43mm, I don't see this watch as a monster compared to other entries from other manufacturers who have models that range from 45-50+mm. However, this watch is quite tall. Some reviewers have dismissed this watch as being simply too large for all but those with large wrists (7+in.) but I'm not so sure. Especially with the new glidelock clasp that makes a perfect fit more easily obtained, I think this watch may work for people like myself with small wrists. Any additional thoughts?

I bought a DSSD 3 months ago and absolutely love it. The writing is not overbearing to me at all. From a wearer's perspective, you don't even notice it. One concern is what I have been hearing about the fragile nature of the Cerachrome bezel on various posts but no one has posted any pics of a broken bezel. has anyone heard about the bezel being prone to breakage?? as a diving tool, i would have thought the whole watch (bezel included) should be able to stand up to a lot of rough situations and heavy knocks??!! would appreciate any feedback.

Hello Hank!!!
Nice to see you here on the Rolex Forums!!! I knew it had to be you when I saw your avatar, not to mention the Starlingear skulls which are adorning the pics of your AWESOME new timepiece!!! Great to see a fellow USN'er here!! Grats on the watch bro! It is one heck of a watch!! I tried on on at my local AD this past weekend, and although it does seem a bit too large for my wrist, I certainly do appreciate it's heft and it's aesthetics. My wife absolutely loved the watch when she saw it on my wrist (which is great, hopefully she'll be more "accepting" when I decide to get it! LOL!!) I agree with you on the clasp!!! It is very cool and innovative! I am currently saving for a GMT Master IIc, but my next "project" will probably be either the DSSD or perhaps the new 2010 Submariner. Wear your watch in good health!!! Abdon |
