Patek special piece
Hi guys,
So right now I’m facing a big dilemma. My Patek dealer called me today saying my wife’s 7118 piece was being shipped out from Switzerland. Along the way he asked me if I was interested in a special piece, obviously I said yes. He knew I had inquired about the 5740 and therefore he advised me if I was interested in such watch I would have to marry it with another purchase somewhere around the 70k mark. My question is how would you guys proceed? I’m a casual guy and therefore wouldn’t know what kind of watch I could purchase to score the bigger fish. Any advice is appreciated. By the way he needed an answer by tomorrow as he needs to place orders for next year allocation. Thanks

Why don't you counter with a $40-$50k watch if you really want the 5740? Say "I really like the 5205R or 5146R (which is a gorgeous watch by the way"). Another reference might be a 5524G or R which are gorgeous!
You'll lose like $10-$15k if you decide to sell but the 5740G is imho worth it :) Unless there is a $70k watch you actually want... |

If it’s a sure thing tell him you want a 5905R and the 5740. Flip the 5740 and you end up with a free 5905R. And don’t feel guilty about it he’s the one jerking you around to begin with.

I personally would not do it. To me bundling is a form of extortion. No watch is that impoortant to me.

Typical failing AD behavior. It'll all come back 10 fold when things cool. 5740g is a great watch, best of luck in pursuing.

Hehehe I was thinking of keep both but yeah this is not a bad deal too. Both watches together are pretty cool and different - one dress watch and one sports/nautilus. Really cool 2 piece collection

Somehow this is hilarious. I don't condone flipping and such but this, that would be a cool story to tell. ''Yeah this 60k watch? I didn't pay a dime for it''.

Thanks for the replies everyone! Let me sleep on it. Maybe I’ll propose the 5205g. I’ll see if that flies :)

The only problem would be if the AD can’t deliver the 5740 in a reasonable amount of time. Maybe buy both at the same time, wait until the 5740 arrives.

The 7118 and the 5740 are the bundle. Can’t believe the AD is trying to get more $$ out of you...
You can of course sell the 5740 for a profit but do you want to keep it? |

They probably have a policy of $100k spent to get it. The 7118 + $70k watch?

I won't have any money left for the 5740 after I spend 70k on other watches. Nice one if you can get it though.

If the AD did not specify any limitations...I would go for the 5231J as the supplemental piece! Then u have both that are allocation pieces and hard to get!

This isn’t that bad of an offer honestly. I would ask for 5524G and if no go then 5172G.

a friend of mine spent 500K Euros last year with an AD (5370P, 5270P, 5170P + some smaller stuff) and still is not sure to get a 5740 in 2020...
if i were you i'd ask for a 5320G with the 5740, sell the 5740 and have the beautiful 5320 almost for free. |

Don’t do it ! Only if the other piece is one you would buy anyway. If you do it , be sure you will get both at the same time. If it was me, I would simply tell him , you want the 5740 but not another one right now. I would tell him you are willing to give him a $5,000 deposit ( no more!) . If that’s not good enough , forget it. It will turn into a curse rather than a blessing if you buy another piece you don’t really want first. The 5740 may or may not show up. It still,as somebody said, is just a watch. My Ad says he’s only gotten 1 5740 in the time he has been in business. Be careful . Just what I would do, if I was me. :-)))

WF here still are asking a high price £195K, considering they made a very healthy offer for my 5711/1r I assume they would pay £130/40K once this one sells.

My wifes watch was ordered back in April before the increment in price.
Receiving it next week without the additional price increase. Therefore I would have to bundle with something else this time around.
