Rolex Day Date Waitlist?

Hello all,
I am new to the Rolex Watch community. I am currently saving up for a Gold Rolex Day Date. I am looking into the 36mm and I was wondering if this watch is on a waitlist? I am not sure what the ref. number is but, I want a yellow gold day date with the champagne dial. People have told me that is the "classic" look of the day date. I know it is plain and simple with no diamonds on it, but I like it. I know there are several ADs in my local area (maybe 5 or 6) but I have not called any of them yet or visited as I am not looking to purchase for another several months. I would appreciate any insight on the waitlist question as I know quite a few of the sports models in stainless steel have a waitlist.

Thanks for the help!

I do no think there is a waiting list and you should have your watch within a month or so of ordering unless the dial needs to come from Geneva.

Why would the dial have to come from Geneva? I know they are HQ there, but I thought the champagne dial was pretty basic compared to the other dials offered?

I have a 6 month wait for my YG DD40. Definitely try both on, the 36 and 40mm. The 40mm imo fits most people better but to each their own.

You might even be able to get a small discount on the watch, especially the 36mm

Good luck

Here in the US, my AD said they could special order some Day Dates. My DD40 everose/green dial couldn't be ordered, so I had to wait for the next shipment. Thankfully it came in two days later. I doubt there's any waiting list on any of these models in the US, especially the 36. The 40 seems more popular, and even for that there was no waiting list.

I haven’t looked into this particular reference but I’d guess no list. For me personally If there is a wait longer than 2-3 weeks, I’d go TS/Grey and let the AD know they’ve lost my business.

I would check prices on the secondary market for a 36mm DD. The previous model 118238, plenty to choose from at a discount. There are not many pre owned 128238 on the market but of the few out there, I do see diamond dials asking price is less than A DD36 stick dial at retail. I would also consider the 223238 pre owned, yes it's the 40mm but selling below retail compared to a 128236 36 mm at retail, just FYI.

Have one of the trusted sellers here source you one. I am sure it will come with a nice discount too!

It is but you never know what is in stock the moment you place your order. Seems like they are pushing the diamond dials on the 36 mm DDs at the moment.

Champagne dial is very classic. I tend to like silver. It is kind of an off-white color and to me is a little more contemporary. If you're going to get a day date, I would suggest checking out dials in person first before making your final purchase.

36 fits and LOOKS much better than the 40 and whole lot better than the 41. Look for second hand unpolished and save $.

Just got back from Singapore. If you’re planning a trip os, there are day dates aplenty in ADs, both 36/40mm. Each store I went into willing to give 10% discount plus 5.7% back in tax at the airport.

You can save a lot going Grey market. I would be hard pressed paying full retail for a day date.

I would go in to an AD and see if you can try on a DD 40 and 36. See which one fits you and what you prefer. I would then ask the AD about pricing and discounts and see what they say. I have a good relationship with my AD but they will not budge on pricing for PM Rolex watches at the moment. Once you know what you want contact one of our Trusted Sellers here on TRF. DavidSW, Patrick at OC Rolex Guy are just a few. They post here in the FS section and also have websites with watches. Save some serious money and have the watch by 1030 am the day after you pay. Good luck and you selected a very good looking and classic model. Keep us posted on your progress.

Most likely I would expect to have Day Dates available at the ADs. As noted the Champagne is the most common DD dial. With luck you should be able to find one without much looking around. The only reason a wait list would be needed is if they needed to order one for you. That would likely result in a short wait.

I have heard mixed reviews about grey market. Since I am new, I have never purchased anything either grey market or AD. What happens to the warranty if you buy from grey market? That is one of my concerns.

Use the search feature for that info. Lots of posts on this topic. If you go with a trusted Grey on this forum you will have no problems.

A YG DD40 with black dial motif. I know it’s not super in demand but that’s how long I was quoted, can’t wait to have it on my wrist! Good things come to those who wait and all that

I was in an Atlanta AD this week and they had more DayDates than any other model on display. My 20 year old YG DayDate is 36mm and I wear it almost daily. Great look.

When I was debating which model DD40 to get, my sales guy said they could order pretty much any variant except the olive dial everose, and they didn't think it would take too long to come in. It sounds like there are some serious supply issues in the UK, I guess even with DDs if you were quoted 6 months.

As luck would have it I decided on the only model they couldn't order (olive dial everose), so I had to wait for it to come in. And it came in the next shipment two days later, lol.

You'll find the wait worth it, the DD40 is a fantastic watch!

there's no wait list for it the only thing is if the ad doesn't have it they'll have to order it which means it could be 2-4 weeks (if its here in the US) or 3-4 months if it has to come from geneva

and go with a 118238. you can get a brand new in box for like 20% off, unlike a 128238

Things must be difficult over there. I’m sorry my friend. That is actually my favorite day date. I absolutely love it and you will too. I see them all the time in AD’s here. I actually sold mine and now I have the black dial with baguettes on order. I should have it in four weeks. Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you too! Be good to hear how you find the baguettes, I gave it a lot of consideration and in person they looked absolutely stunning!

I'm curious how the baguettes appear outside of AD lighting. I tried on a sundust dial one at the AD last time I went, and I didn't find the baguettes to be a sparkly as I had thought they would be. I'm not sure if it's because of the cut or because of the harsh AD lighting. Or perhaps they just blended in too much with the sundust dial.

I was initially thinking I'd go for baguettes, but the sundust dial on the everose DD was just too much pink for me, I needed some more contrast. Unfortunately baguettes weren't an option on the olive dial, but I really love the contrast of the everose romans against the green, so I'm happy either way.

baguettes are really nice under the right lighting but otherwise look kind of plain imo. not sure if they're worth the premium but personally if the dial i was looking at had the option i'd probably go with baguettes. i think they look best with black dials
