Best way to protect your clasp?
Hi. Does anyone recommend any of the 3m or other plastic sticker covers to protect your watch clasp? If so, which ones?

Really, any tape will do. If you wear the watch eventually you will say the heck with it and just wear the watch and forget about the tape. Needs to be replaced far too often as the edges peel up quickly. Fact is anything that touches the polished center of a Rolex clasp will leave at least a hairline visible in bright light.

Best thing is to wear and enjoy. It's the most exposed area and hence bound to be scratched - But then again, the watch is also meant to be used

I use this GMT cut zagg on my clasp. I like it. It probably comes with more stickers than you need unless you're looking to cover much of the watch. |

Reminds me of the plastic covering folks use to put on the couch back in the day. I think we’re going over board with some of these things.

Wear it and have the scratches buffed out when it's serviced!

Scratches are memories and character, I would recommend not being afraid of a little wear and tear. Rolexes tend to hold their luster and shine really well.
There are DIY for scratches, as well as regular service which will restore the bracelet to basically new. Enjoy your watch! |

Just be more careful. It’s a good practice in the watch world and otherwise.

Try and set you wrist on a cloth or piece of paper as much as possible... other than that, wear away.

I am thinking about adding a Yacht-master and was looking at some YouTube videos to see if any reviews spoke about the platinum bezel being prone to scratches. I came across one of an owner who worked on a farm and wore his YM proudly every day doing all sorts of tasks including welding. The owner loved his watch and spoke highly of it even though it had many scratches from his work and even a good sized welding scar. The watch was honest and beautiful, scars and all, and it struck me that the classic and enduring design of a Rolex transcends the superficial injuries caused by daily wear. Liberated by this I’ve never give a scratch or nick a thought since.

I'm new to this world but this post just amazes me. So lets assume that the majority of folks here own a car that costs more than their Rolex and in the overall scheme of things is probably more valuable to your life than your watch. Do you folks obsess over every scratch or swirl on your cars?
What am I missing here? |

These or sell it to someone who doesn’t see it as an investment and will use it for what it is designed to do.

I carry a pocket square with me EVERYWHERE, preferably one that matches the dial and/or bezel color of that day’s Rolex. Whenever I sit down I casually remove the pocket square from my pocket, fold it in half, and place it down on the table. This is where I rest my wrist and watch. Its like a helipad, but for my watch. Roli-pad?

Oh yes, two bucket wash method on my car (yes it’s a daily driver), ceramic coating paint protection, if I can’t wash it properly it doesn’t get washed, never ever ever a car wash My watches, especially the daily GMT, no protection ever, sand, sea, sangria no problem and I bet in 10 years time it will be worth more than my car Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I use 3M paint protector on the clasp of my Submariner because that is the part that takes the most abuse. I have to change it every couple of months but the clasp remains perfect underneath. I ordered the same 3M paint protection film employed to protect automobile paint. In the past, I've applied it myself to my Harley and have had it professionally applied to my cars. I thought if the film would protect automotive paint from rock chips, it might also save the clasp of my new Submariner. The film is available on Amazon as VViViD 3M Clear Paint Protection Vinyl Film 4" x 12." I apply the film with the same methods used on vehicles after I cut it to fit the exact size of my clasp. I use an Exacto knife and make sure there is no overlap over the edge of the clasp to avoid peeling. Next, I use a solution of alcohol and distilled water for the application. The first time I tried this approach, it took me a couple of attempts to get the size right, but now I'm happy with the results. |
