1660 LV D Serial Dropped
Hello all,
Have a need for information. As the title reflects, my beloved 16610 LV fell the other morning and the watch was damaged. It happened to fall squarely onto the crystal and shattered that when it hit the (of course) tile floor. Upon further inspection, the second hands "tail" was bent badly and the hour hand was bent slightly down as well. Seems to be a small scratch on the dial as well. Upon seeing this horror I pulled the crown to stop the movement. I could not look at it really. I was and am sick about it. I took it to a local AD and they have the watch as we speak and are giving me a estimate on repairs. My question is this. I know the movement will need service and a new crystal. Can the hands be repaired? I want to keep the watch original if at all possible and with the gloss dial I believe can a dial repair be accomplished? I do not have pictures as I took it immediately to the AD. These watches are and have increased in value and while I do not want sell the watch I do not want to effect value either. Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. I will post pictures as soon as I get the watch back from the AD after they provide a estimate. Thank You |

RSC will not keep anything original. Anything damaged will be replaced with service parts. You want to keep original, call Rik. He has experience with this kind of project.

You already know that it will need a new crystal and full service.
It is unlikely that an AD would bother to try to repair hands - they are pretty delicate to work with. A D serial is already Luminova, so new hands are going to be the same to replace, the issue might be whatever details that your dial may have that are different than the norm.

I freaked out a bit when it happened and I really did not know the extent of the damage until we looked at it. I picked it up, pulled out the crown and put it in a box and took it in. Strange that I know all of what everyone told me here but when this happened it was really traumatic. Just wanted it fixed asap. I am a Fire Service professional with over 30 years experience and people look to me everyday in emergency situations but I freak and go blank when my watch gets hurt. Funny really. I used Rikki once before and I will reach out to him. I hope original parts for it are available. Still sick thinking about it and how I reacted to it.

Sorry to hear- I know that SICK feeling as well. Not sure of the extent of your damage, but below invoice is what I paid when I shattered my 1995 16610 Sub back in May 2019- I did however feel better when it arrived back and looked brand new!

For a d-serial just get everything changed, the hands aren’t that expensive they constantly advertise them in the for sale section.
Sorry to hear about your mishap |

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. The folks have given you all the correct advice, I can't add further value. I am sure you will feel better once you get your watch back.

These incidents suck really but in your case you should overcome that nasty feeling faster than most of us since being a fire service professional I’m sure you may have seen damage to human bodies that are beyond repair. You should feel so at ease with the damage of your watch in comparison and be positive your watch will get back to you looking like new.

Sh.t happens, let rolex replace what they deemed nessary and move on and enjoy your watch. I dropped a DS 5 feet on a file floor in the shower landing directly on the face, not a mark nor missed a beat. I guess something to be said how the beast is put together !

Have to agree and when changed know one would know anything was changed its not like if was a single or double red vintage sub. But a modern day luminover 16610LV a watch made in the many many thousands.

Sorry to hear! I hate moments like that when your watch gets damaged when you aren’t paying attention. Good luck with repairs. May they be speedy!
