Experience with MB Fineliner

Anyone have any experience with the MB Meisterstuck Fineliner?

I don’t have any experience with the MB, but I do have a Visconti rollerball that I generally put a fineliner refill in. The Visconti uses standard ‘euro profile’ refills so you can switch around as much as you like. I use the Schmidt 6040, but Schneider offer them too. Think the Schmidt is nicer.

In all honesty, the fineliner is probably a better option than the rollerball for most people. They’re light to write with, the ink density is good, and there’s no risk of smudging. In addition, I fly for a living, and rollerballs don’t work very well in aircraft. No problems with the fineliner.

If there’s a downside, it’s that if the cap doesn’t seal well and they can dry out. If I’m not going to use mine for a bit, I take out the refill and cap it with the cap that came with the refill. I have a low price Ohto ‘Dude’ that I also use with a fineliner, and that seals up tight. I’ve had the same refill in there for about 2 years with no issues!

I don’t know if the MB uses a standard refill or something unique. I suspect the refills are made by one of the firms above, but my experience of MB is that they are likely to be decent, if costly. The MB colours are nice though!

Thanks for the feedback. I will have to look into Visconti. I’m not dead set in MB but I just love the Meisterstuck line. I have the LeGrand ballpoint as my daily but lately I have been loving Fineliners for how the ink looks and feels when writing. I’m currently using a Micron Pen from Sakura. I have the ranges from 005 up to 08. I always carry my MB but find myself reaching for the Fineliner lately.

Here are my three favourite ‘non fountain’ pens.

The Visconti (Rembrandt) are a little more fancy than the MB, but are made of a very nice material, and turned not moulded. Colour looks a little brown in this pic, but it’s quite a vibrant orange. I keep a fine line refill in this.

The Pelikans are very nice. Perhaps an alternative to the MB. The refill feeds from the back, and is sprung. Nice to write with. I leave this as a roller.

The Pilot Custom 74 is probably the ‘wild card’ here, but a lovely pen, and reasonably priced. Another alternative to the MB? The regular refill is a gel (Pilot speciality) and hard to beat, so I leave it. I find these gel pens are much better as capped pens than retractable, as they don’t dry out. Consider the ‘Metropolitan’ as a low priced alternative!

If you fancy the MB you probably won’t be making a mistake. Very iconic, and a lovely feel. I have a couple of their fountain pens. Pelikan have had the edge in quality until recently (especially the M800 - way ahead of the 149) but I’m not sure there’s much in it at present!

Just know that they run out of ink faster than most.

I love writing with them. My overall favorite. Have replaced a few of my roller balls with FL. But as per above, they need refilling fairly frequently. All below have FL refills in them.
