What Second Watch Should I Buy?

So my friend has a Submariner No Date and is currently looking to purchase his second watch. After talking with him he is looking at these three watches:
  • Omega Speedmaster Professional (Hesalite)
  • Rolex Datejust 41 (Wimbledon or Blue with Roman Numerals)
  • Rolex Explorer 1

Which one would you purchase? He has stated that he doesnt want more than two watches

All three are excellent choices for a second piece to add. The Speedmaster would be a nice choice, but you didn't mention which reference. Presuming, the 42mm solid case back, hesalite crystal, manual wind version, both this Speedmaster, and the Explorer I , have no date. Combined with the Sub No Date, maybe two no date watches may be bothersome. So I like the DJ41. It has a date, great style, and can be dress or casual.

Normally, hands down Speedy. But if he only has two watches, get one that has a date. He can use the sub bezel as a timer if need be. So DJ.

Speedmaster for the win. Love my Polar, Pepsi, etc, yet the Speedmaster is a great movement / diversity play and soooo comfy on the wrist too.

I vote DJ w/ blue dials and Romans. I have a friend who recently added one and it makes a great combo with his ND Sub.

I have other watches but I only wear the Sub (114060) and my Speedmaster Pro Hesalite. It's a fantastic two watch combo. Speedy for the win.

Any idea which one your friend likes? That would be the answer. It is a lot of money to spend for something other people like.

That being said, Speedmaster for me.

Datejust. If only two it's nice to have a dressier watch in the rotation.

Of the three, my fave is the speedy, but the sub has a black face. For variety, the blue DJII Roman gives him blue, dressy, and a date.

I would go with the DJ. Unless he really needs a chrono.

I personally find the Explorer I and Sub no date a bit redundant. So it would be between these two for me.

My vote is DJ 41 blue.

If his first watch were a Sub-Date, I would say get the Speedy.

I love the Speedy, but as the owner of the 114060, I’ll get a DJ before a Speedy.

DJ41 or II or 36 mm would be nice to add.

I would buy the Speedmaster on a bracelet and a few NATO and leather straps and have a lot of options for under 4k.

The Sub is an iconic Rolex. I would say the DJ is the other iconic Rolex. Since the Sub does not have a date, the DJ would make a versatile addition and he would have the 2 great classic iconic Rolex watches.

A Speedmaster is readily available and he can get one easily; either new or pre-owned.

The Speedy, with hesalite crystal and steel back. This and all other Omega models are in stock at my local Omega boutique, ready to be tried on and eventually bought any time I care to drop in. I know this, because I mailed them last Saturday. I wonder whether this will ever be the way with Rolex ADs again, as it used to be? I'm toying with the idea of a Speedy...
